Doing some research for a potential client. I google Los Angeles Lawyer and Los Angeles attorney. Results = all crap.

Los angeles attorney only had ONE actually attorneys website at number 10. The rest is just authority spam, even wikipedia, crap about the district attorney etc. Wtf is wrong with Google?

It should be "Lawyer in Los Angeles", not "Los Angeles Lawyer".
But it wouldnt help you because the results are crap anyway. :)

At least you got one relevant result.
Gotta feel sorrt for regular Google users who are too scared to go to Bing or don't know about it. They are being fed some really egregious shit - by the bucket load at the moment.

People talk about Google doing this for clicks.
That would be so short sighted
These results are that bad, there will soon be no-one left using Google to click anything

Yeah it's a real pain in my ass right now though since I run a local SEO firm and those are the kind of results coming up for my clients niches.

You are 100% right. the search results dont make sense. As go0gle tries to make its search engine more advanced, it is really damaging it. The serps are a mess and the only reason is because google cant stand black hatters. By trying to target blackhat sites they hit many white hat sites that provide valuable information. Its easy to see on white hat discussion forums.

After analysing the link profiles in a large number of niches, the links and anchors do not make sense for the page one sites. The hummingbird update attempts to understand similar terms but really just turned the serps upside down.

I never thought I would say this but I prefer bing over google now.

Hummingbird looks like a one trick pony. It parses page text looking for answers to questions.

Well guess what Google - The internet was here a couple of decades before HUmmingbird - and people didn't write "answers to questions" (they will now - oh yes this shit is gonna get GGAAAAAAAMMMMMMMEEEEEEDDDDD)

Imagine you found a cure for cancer.

Better make the title of your white paper

"Where To Look If You're Want A Cancer Cure"

If you label it as a peer review open paper like: "Professor Frinks White Paper 122434 Cell Regrowth And Cancer Reversal Study"... then those thick twats at Google aren't going to index it. It's not "Hummingbird friendly"

Their decades of skill at parsing text is that good - if you don't tell them exactly..in words..that you are answering a particular query. They're lost, fucked, about as good as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.

I'm told the average IQ in Google plex is in the 130's.
Who knows what they're doing with all that brain power. Not turning into a good search engine that's for fucking sure

@scritty, are you sure Hummingbird tries to answer a question?

This is how I feel about Google results right now:
    - Me: "buy ipad online"
    - Hummingbird: Oh, he mentioned the word "online"!!! I know the answer, screw ipad, screw buy, there you go, search results for "online"
