After over a year of reading, learning, trying, harvesting, filtering, building, thesaurus building, python scripts, confusing text file manipulation, blasting, testing, adjusting, ETC. ETC.,

I can finally rank on the first page, position 1-3, for high volume keywords with reasonable competition, all automated. The only thing I have to do is set up the project files, check the right settings and blast away. 1 week later I saw my site on the first page, and it has stayed there. My sites are good quality with good quality, useful, unique, readable, keyword rich content. But my SEO is aggressive blackhat, I would compare myself to a little North Korea struggling to build its first nuke.

However after I unleashed the bomb and got first page rankings the sales and money from such positions isn't as good as I had expected. The traffic is there, but not the money. When doing SEO all we can do is choose keywords which *Appear* to be buyer type keywords, e.g. "cheap X" or "buy Y" or specific product models but we won't truly know if these keywords will convert until we rank for such terms. Testing via PPC beforehand would be a good idea, but given the amount of sites that I make, this would be uneconomical, it's just not viable. I am finding that keywords are completely random, for example I rank #1 for a term with 10,000 exact searches. Traffic is there but no sales, just a couple unrelated to the product being reviewed. It may also be due to the relatively high ticket price, but still there should be sales from that after 2 weeks. Other terms are doing much better, for example I sold 2 multigyms today giving me about $200.

Just some thoughts about my hard work to get to "the top". It's nice to know that my instincts and inklings have been correct in terms of ranking in G. There have been times I felt I was going insane and losing touch with reality as I waded through spintax, thesaurus definitions, python scripts and html forms. So it's cool that I can see I wasn't imagining things and that my brain is still very much sane. However I would like more money for all the work, I will continue my SEO efforts but I'm also going to branch out to other things as the ROI in SEO is less than it was in the easier past. I do feel that G is continually closing up "holes" in the algorithm that we can exploit, hence it's getting less economical to target "free" traffic as it, in most cases, is far less "free" than PPC. At least with PPC you pay when someone comes to your site. With SEO, you pay or you work for the mere HOPE of someone coming to your site.

While I am spamming I like to listen to the following:

Perhaps you should try alternative method of banking from your traffic. Like you said, the traffic is there, just not the sales.

As with all things that truly work, why the hell would I whore out my method, and thus make it ineffective, for a lot less than I could make if I keep the methods and tools to myself :) The people who sell "one click" tools / super amazing linkbuilding services are mostly doing it because they would make a lot less if they actually tried to do SEO with them, hence the services aren't all that good anyway. My advice is to experiment to see what works for yourself, keep a note of the results, and finally when you find something that works, keep it, discard everything else. Problem is a lot of people turn on SB and think it will be easy. If you had told me when I first bought SB, that economically viable (i.e. profitable) SEO would be so difficult as it has, I would probably have got a regular 9-5 until I could afford to set up a non-SEO related IM business.

Thats exactly how I have felt a couple of months last year, and then BOOM everything ranked high and the money coming in was 10X more than I had predicted. Now I feel like I have the world in my palm since practically everything I do turns into gold. But I know that I have to continue to study and stay humble, Invest my money back in IM and put the rest in the bank. But it feels so strange when you have finally "made it"... Feels empty and lonely somehow, almost an "eerie" feeling to it. But then again, I havent been out seeing friends since last summer... IM is addictive as hell.

And now that you've "gotten there" --- keep telling yourself, at least once a week:

This won't last forever. Make it while you can. Plan for the future. Learn new skills or try new markets. Don't rest on your laurels.

It can be very easy to let the money roll in, enjoy life --- and then be blindsided when the game changes drastically, and the money stops flowing.

And starting from the beginning all over again is much harder when you've built a lifestyle and "need" a certain amount of money in order to maintain that lifestyle.

Always stay ahead of the game, or you'll crash hard. Trust me on that one.

Thanks for the support guys. gb5000, I am glad you get it too, I am not keeping it to myself just to be selfish, it's just that it will be ineffective if shared all over BHW. Anyone who works their ass off, FAILS, takes notes, FAILS, takes notes, improves, FAILS, takes notes, FAILS, takes notes, improves, FAILS takes notes.....possibly dozens or even a hundred times, can make it. But it requires a lot of blood sweat and tears, and innovative thought.

TripleBeamDreams, yes, I know the feeling. When I was making just $1 a day I said to myself, if I could ever make $1000 in a month I would be so happy, over the moon, celebrating. But there is an eerie feeling to it. I think part of it is because I'm so damn exhausted, yet I have to keep going. Part of it is because in my time as SEO, I have learnt that NOTHING is stable. In fact it's one of the least stable income streams you can get - organic traffic. I am going to scale this up and bank as much as I can, save most of it and reinvest the rest in a non-SEO IM business. It would mean that I'd have to say bye bye to my beloved xrumer but not for a year at least.

I haven't done what I call "made it". When I have my own house in a place that I like, with a nice blonde girlfriend and a couple of kids, then I would have made it. So reallife, I can understand exactly what you mean. Like I said, when I was making nothing I would have been elated to make very low 4 figures per month, but now I see that I need a lot more than that to achieve my goals. So even though I am fucking exhausted and it is not economically viable to outsource at this point except article writing (plus I don't trust anyone with my stuff), I have to keep grinding. BUT this is a step in the right direction, after all the streams of failure and seeming brain explosions. There were times when I began to think there was a god, but he was just there taking the piss out of me.

When I have truly "made it" I will make a thread thanking the relevant people. Unfortunately this forum has become full of people asking basic questions which could be obtained from the search function, those expecting direct blasting SB to give significant results in 2012. However if you spend hours and hours, days and days, just using the search and digging down to the days when a lot more genius members used to post, you can find some golden nuggets. Ironically, my advice to any newbie would be, to avoid SEO. It's too hard, but I'm in too deep now. As I said , I will scale then diversify.

I know how you feel. To me often times the chase is more gratifying than the capture. What I mean is after you start to see success with your sites there is usually nothing much left to do to/for them.
