    Hey!

I got hit by Google update a while ago and was wondering what would be the best thing to do to recover from it?

Also, let's say that I spin an article every second day (500-1000 words) and publish it on my website, is that something that will hurt or help the ranking on Google?

Google can backhand your site for many different reasons. Before you ask a question like this, it'd be better to know exactly why you got hit. Otherwise, I'd be blindly assuming things.

Just as SeasnAustin said, there are many reasons WHY.
But from the fact that you are posting spun articles - it is only expected that Google will punish you for low quality content.
It depends on how good you spin the as well , are they readable, keep your visitors engaged, etc.
