Anyone have any tips on what's the best process to go about hiring VA's...

I've been going through this myself and run into many different problems.

Some say they know what their doing but when in comes down to the nitty gritty i feel they really dont
I end up spending more time managing them then the time it saves me.

I also feel that they are not spending the time they say they are working on projects.

It would be nice if there was some program that would be able to tell me what they are working on or capture keystrokes or something

    Any suggestions?

Not an easy task in my opinion... I have worked with quite few, and there have been more than enough bad apples. My number one tip for you is: Once you find reliable and skilled person, don´t let go of him/her, and reward a job well done as well. I have been working with one VA more than 2 years now, would not change. There´s mutual trust and respect, I never have to worry what´s going on.

If you post an ad, and people respond to that, look carefully what do the applications look like. Make note of every piece of communication you have with the applicants. Perhaps even have a video-interview if possible.

I think I have seen one VA provider here in BHW who says that when you want, you´ll always have real-time access to the computer desktops of the VAs, so there´s a control method of course. Another one would be frequent communication and detailed reporting as requirements. If they are possible with the projects, milestones are not a bad idea.

Thanks for the tip, any idea what the name of the service is that provides the real time tracking or viewing of the VA?

I also have plan to hire my VA but I have no idea where to start and what tasks should I give to them as there is a always a possibility that they steal your method or if they are dumb then you have to invest a lot of time to teach them.

It was not an easy process for me. There was so good tips on Noble Samurai Dojo. Pretty much it said build a long application form where they can submit a resume. Only people who really want the job will take the time to fill out the form. Only some of them will send in a resume. This process was good although the problem i just had was i trained someone which took a lot of time and then he gave me some bs story that his laptop broke and he couldn't work anymore. The first person i hired was a complete idiot. Couldn't even get the concept of an end of day email. With her i was seriously spending more time fixing her mistakes and trying to teach her that it would have been easier to do it myself. I feel that anyone who says that hiring VA's is easy has not done it.

I guess i need to do more of a true trial period. Hire slow and fire fast. Although in most cases what i really need is someone who can write perfect english and those people are hard to find and if you do find one then they come at a steep price.

It almost seems easier just to outsource it to another company really. I'm really getting tired of the whole thing to be honest.
The money that i spent on them i could've just bought it outright and saved myself time.

You could use odesk team viewer software to keep track what they are doing....select a VA, post a private job post in there & reward him. odesk will take 10% fee from you but it's best option to work with if for sometime....building trust you can come out from odesk.

    ==lol thing is that==
as i have much time, i'm ready to be a VA with accepting any condition:) hit me a PM if you need.

Ya odesk is ok, although i've had a lot of problems on there as well. I guess i'm going to try some of the people that have contacted me through here as if they come from this route they should have more SEO experience and require less training. I use to pay people per week, but now i see the best method is to pay per job. So if i get busy and dont have time to assign them anything then i dont pay anything works out better this way.

This is one of them, notice that I only post this because I saw a few posts from them here and visited their website (haven´t used them):

    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...ull-time-staff-300-usd-month-salary-only.html

I just saw on their website that you could have access to the employee´s desktop etc., I suggest you ask more from them. Regarding time tracking I have no info how they work, again suggest that you speak with them or ask reviews from their existing clients.

What I really meant by "real time time tracking", is that I have found it to be a good idea on some occasions, if I can work with the VA exactly as if he would be sitting next to me, the only difference would be that we would be speaking via Skype and not face-to-face. So not giving them tasks and coming back the day after asking if they are done. Other method would be to require detailed reporting of what´s been done, requiring estimated time needed for each task etc.

Minor edit/addition: not sure where you are located, but this I can recommend (have also used them):

    www.fernarbeit.net

It´s a German site for freelancers, but they do have English staff there as well.

For screen capture without the constant odesk fee you can use Time Doctor... http://www.timedoctor.com/.

As for management, that depends on what you need them to do. I prefer to spend some time training and answering any questions for the first week and then get them set up to be self-sufficient. This is easier if they are doing a small collection of tasks that need repeating on a regular basis. Otherwise, yeah, it can be a pain to find little tasks to fill in a full-time outsourcer especially if you have to train them on a new task all the time.

The first and the most important thing would be to buy them from a trusted and reliable seller with lots of positive feedbacks.

Secondly, make sure to explain your needs to the VA properly and confirm that he has understood them properly.

Also, try to get a trial first if possible to check if the VA can work according to the needs and requirements.

Thanks this looks promising. I will have to take a look at it.

PS how do you get a URL in the post without triggering the post security warning?

I +1 for Time Doctor, that's actually the software that we're using to track our time when we're working on a specific project. It doesn't only track your work but it also helps you stay productive because it has been programmed to prompt a message if you're still working or not, same goes if you're browsing Facebook etc.

Forget VA's. Automate whatever it is you want done. Spend some money and buy zennoposter.

Whether you teach an assistant or teach zenno to do what you want, you're still wasting a bunch of time teaching. Except when you're done with zenno you can scale it up, and when you're done with your VA ... if you taught them anything useful they'll be off on their own making fiverr gigs and then you get to teach another VA.
