I've never sold anything through amazon but find it interesting. I was looking at products and found that the number 1# product for a certain keyword was a generic alibaba product, and there was only the one seller for this listing.

I looked on alibaba and found the exact product (exact same manufacturer code). The product goes for about 1.99$ on alibaba, but is being sold for 9.99$ on amazon.

Now, when I looked at who the seller was on amazon, I noticed that is was also the exact same seller/manufacturer on alibaba. So this manufacturer is selling his product for 1.99$ on alibaba and then also selling it for 9.99$ on amazon.

What are your thoughts on buying from him on alibaba, then directly competing against him by hijacking his listing by slightly undercutting his cost?

Also, is there any way he could connect the dots that I'm the same guy who purchased it from him on alibaba?

It works very well, Amazon has a great system for giving you a chance in low saturation niches. It will rotate the listings it displays to give you sales ops. Just start selling bro if you found a top seller, low competition product. Stop over thinking and start testing.

The longer you think about it instead of testing the more time we have to find the product and jump in before you xD

Make sure your able to find someone else in China supplying the product.
That's a terrible idea.he needs to plan it out properly. If his only competitor is the one making the product and the only one that can supply him. It's a bad idea to jump into that product because they could stop supplying it to him. So he should find someone else who's also able to supply it as backup

I guess for me testing is a broad word. It means looking into different things and trying them out. I would include finding different suppliers to see who can get me best product for the lowest price as testing as well. So I guess my point was taking action!
I don't really understand how you can call that horrible advice, What if he needed the funds to invest into a Chinese manufacturer or once he lists product it doesn't actually do well and he already has a crate on the way? He has a surefire way to test this niche before he has to invest larger amounts, worse that happens is he makes some money, gets cut off, finds new product makes more money, Right???

Well, if he cuts me off then I'll just sell something else. When I see something untapped like this I assume there is a reason why. Wondering, is there a rule on amazon where if the product does not have a logo, but you are the manufacturer of the product, that you can lock a listing only for yourself?
