I have seen people doing it with the SAPE links but the site gets penalized and here you don't bother about that then go for sape links.

I don't know what others will say but I usually try and test. I had rank an Independence Day Event Blog(Started in the start of June and it was ranked till the EOM) and ranked it within a couple of weeks with some keywords like Happy Independence Day America/Quotes/Messages using sape links.
