    I've read a few times that I should hide/cloak my affiliate link (like Clickbank) so no one steals my commissions.

    So how would someone steal my Clickbank commission? They hack my site directly? They sniff packets and redirect it to their account? What's going on? Is this a vague threat or a real one?

    I would call it a very vague way to describe what your trying to achieve with link cloaking.

    What they mean with commission stealing is that someone looks at the link and types it in without the affiliate id part and don't let you earn money on them if they buy the product.

    But if someone wants to not give you commission they will just delete their cookies.

    But there is bigger chance that someone clicks to check out what it is if it is a clean link short and saying what it is than an ugly affiliate link.

    But be aware of all this link cloakers, some of them don't actually put your cookie correct on some browsers.

    Also they mostly rely on javascript so if someone have javascript disabled then they won't get redirected either.

    Well direct type in can be an issue no matter what, that's simply losing commission, nothing is being stolen.

    Of course there are guys like me that hunt you down by your clickbank id, steal your landing page designs, adwords ads, paid keywords, URL's for PPV, etc etc :)

    Use godaddy's domain forwarding and masking and you'll be a little safer.

    Just forward your affiliate link and use a domain that matches the landing page a little and you should be good.

    There are many other ways to do it, but this is pretty easy and it works.

    Ah, that's it? Some nitwit doesn't want to give you a commission. I thought it would be more nefarious than that. :) I guess this makes sense since so many people are selling stuff about making money online, and you'll certainly be picking up on that's going on behind the scenes.

    I've got a niche I want to try out and my target audience are women under the age of 30 who are completely stupid. I think my commissions are going to be safe. ;)

    Note: I apologize to any woman who might read this that is under the age of 30 or isn't completely stupid. I certainly don't mean ALL women are completely stupid. (Feel free to steal my commissions if your anything like Tina Fey.) *DUCKS*

    I have one I'll sell you for 34.97 via paypal, which is what I paid for it. I have resell rights to do so and so will you. It masks your link invisibly on a page and redirects on that page, not leaving your html to the page of your affiliate link with a title that you decide when generating the cloaked affiliate link. It works well in IE, FireFox, Opera and Chrome and I tested it recently. I've used it in the past for my mini-sites. Sometimes I also use it on my sites so as not to give away the link (the average user isn't going to go through page source).

    Hiding/cloaking your affiliate link is not a bad idea. Chances are your commissions will be safe, but you never know and why take the chance. An easy way to cloak your link and make them look more professional is by using a php redirect.

    Code:
    <?php
    header( 'Location: [COLOR=White]http://xxxxxx.xxxxxx.hop.clickbank.net/[/COLOR]' ) ;
    ?>
    You can edit the code in notepad and save it as whatever.php. So when someone mouses over the link they will see yoursite.com/whatever.php and not http://xxxxxx.xxxxxx.hop.clickbank.net/

    In most cases, the issue is with commission loss, not commission theft, as Nevarc pointed out. However, there are spyware (aka, "stealware") programs that can actually steal commissions by replacing your affiliate ID with another one.

    I use this script sometimes.
    Put it in /go/ directory as html file and link to /go/redirect.html
    Code:
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; URL=http://link.com">
    <title>link.com</title>
    </head>
    <center>You are being redirected to  - <a href="http://link.com">http://link.com</a></center>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>

    let say you prome a product like 90% of dorks do with their ID open on their site, like

    YOURID.VENDOR.HOP.CLICKBANK.NET

    Since i dont like you i replace YOURID with MYID :)

    So..not only wont you get your commission..*I* will get the commission and i got a cheap deal on whatever you sold on your page, since i get the commission credited back to MY account.....and the funny thing is its legal.
