    Hi guys,

I am visiting London shortly and I am looking for affordable but good places to have dinner in London. It's my first time in London and I have heard about the great city. Downside is that it's a very expensive city though.

There are always restaurants around that has excellent food for a decent price. Thing is you need to know "where" and "which" restaurant :)

I hope someone could advice me!

I am looking for prices up to 25 EURO per meal. I basically like everything, Asian food, Italian, grill, Mexican, American.. everything :)

    Thanks in advance!

There used to be a downstairs Italian restaurant on Old Compton Street. It was irrationally cheap, always packed, and the food was just like eating in an Italian Trattoria. Not sure if it's still there. If so, it is (was?) on the north side of the street, just west of Charing Cross Road. Of course, just wander Soho, you'll find great places. Also head jsut north of Soho, the north side of Oxford Street, there's some great streets full of reasonable (and not-so) restaurants there.

You laugh - bu tin fact BK is a lot more popular in the UK than for instance the US, has actually pretty damn good burgers (for a chain), and was incredibly good value for money compared to for instance McD. There were 2 at Charing Cross Road / Oxford St corner.

Haha that's crazy! Made my day.

I have an anthropology class (boring) but we're learning about how everything is different around the world, even if it's the same thing.

    That's actually really interesting lol.

Then McDs is a great example of that. While ostensibly the same worldwide, there's differences in every place. No McRibs in Turkey. "Garden Burgers" in Germany. The Kiwiburger in New Zealand. Fillet of Fish tastes different in different countries.

Thanks a lot man! I have a huge passion for good food with Italian food in particular, so I really appreciate your suggestion. I did a quick research and followed your directions. I found this restaurant on Google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...BmUfC7tuwiS_6f7quOyHQA&cbp=12,317.02,,0,28.25

Did it looks like the restaurant you were?

    Thanks again!

No that's not it - a few shops to the west - well done, it's called "Pollo". Also the stockpot beside it is good value. Be warned, this is NOT fine gourmet italian dining. It's cheap, home-style, but very authentic. But seriously, it's fun just to wander around sopho and get yourself lost, and you will trip over great restaurants every block.
