Hi friends,

this thread is dedicated to all old-school computer freaks!
The glory kids of the 80s!!:D:D

I had a nice experience yesterday!
I was born in the 70s, so i had my youth in the 80s!
In the 80s i started with compuer games and i played them night and day,
for example: Giana Sisters, Turrican, International Karate, Zak McKracken etc.
But the best game that that thrilled me the most was: The Secret Of Monkey Island! With Mr. Guybrush Threepwood!!:D

Do you guys remember these great pieces of history??:)

So the years passed by and my computer activity went more to creative things like coding and, of course, INTERNET MARKETING!!:D

So for the last circa 12 years i was loosing the thread of Gaming and i no longer was busy myself with it!!

But yesterday i was invited on a party where they had xbox and playstation3! We played some hours several games, it was a very exciting experience!!

But now my feelings:

When i played these current hip games, i was very surprised of the evolution of gaming through the years!! Especially the graphics nowadays are amazing! But, was there more???

NO!! Where is the fun?? These nowadays games don't catch me! There was no thrill for me!!

My question: Are these games don't catch me, because i'm older now and have other interests, or can you also recognize a diffrence of quality, handling and gamestory between the old classics and recent games!

Summery: The nowadays games enjoyed an awesome evolution in graphics compared with the old classics! But they lost the gamefun in my eyes!

I would be happy to discuss this with you!!:)

Regards,

Klitschko

I think you just grow up and have different interests plus time goes when you impregnate half the female population.
Unfortunately the latter statement I have not had the chance :(((

Old games were backed up with more of a story. Take Elite for example (my fave) it came with a poster, book and 'dashboard' style key cover.

If you can feel like you are part of the game and understand the charater you are playing then you get into it more.

That said though, I am probably just too old, have impregnated too many women and have too little time to really get into new games.

I am waiting for 'Better Than Life'. Any Red Dwarf fans here?

The better the graphic capabilities available to the game creaters have allowed them to focus more on the visual experience of the games. Back when gaming was young the game creaters had to use other means to immerse you in the game. I remember when a lot of adventure games were mostly text based, and some of those really kept you involved in the game with no graphics whatsoever.

One of my favorite games during the days of the computer BBSes was a game called tradewars. It was a multiplayer space adventure game that you could play online on a lot of BBSes.

citadel bbs, ivory bbs, amex bbs... those were more fun in some ways than the web.
they had a sense of community, which the 'net lacks. :(

i have all of the infocom games on my hard drive -- 'zork' to 'lurking horror' to 'nord & bert'. :D :D :D

dude i remember the commodore vic 20! and ill tell you for certain, the games you used to play arent half as good as you thought they were. dont believe me? fire up your old console and tryyyy to sit through 1 of them for 20 minutes - you cant, ive tried.

the games weren't the magic; it was the youth. the games these kids have today are 100 times better.

Real Old School Ant Attack, Flunky, Trash Man, all Spectrum, Everyones a wally and Hypersport although I think in America it was track and field
