    Hey all,

My names Rob and I have been lurking here for months now. Lurking IM forums in general for 2 years this upcoming January....

I'm not your typical IM noob. I'm turning 20 in August, and for all 4 years of High School I owned a very successful company... I started the company from scratch, did SEO, PPC, web design, everything myself... for 4 years.. all without ever even knowing about true "internet marketing". In the last year of my company I cleared over $100,000 in sales.. and it all went downhill from there.

I was young, naive, immature, and made spur of the moment, unthought business decisions that led to the downfall of my company, and my insane wealth. I spent my money frivolously (plasmas, iPods, Macs, a brand new Lexus I totaled within 24 hours, etc.) because things did not seem like they would change. And all of a sudden one day they did...

Around the same time my company started going downhill, I started dabbling in smoking that ganja... ahhh what a drug. Long story short, my life spiraled out of control, I got arrested about 8 months after the downfall (spent the last $20k of my money from the company on an attorney), Dad took my car away when he found my pipe, and I just kept saying "fuck it" and kept on smoking that herb.

I ended up moving away from home last August to try to start new somewhere else, but I moved into the heart of one of the biggest party schools in the nation. I was just plain dumb for thinking I could really get my shit together in such an environment. I wanted so bad to buckle down and succeed, but I just kept partying and smoking herb.

I had enough of a steady income from random IM projects I started so that I was making enough to get by (rent, groceries, herb, booze), with MAYBE 30 minutes of work a week... a niche site that consistently made around $500/month (I whipped this bitch together in MAYBE 3 hours work time), eBay cookie stuffing on that site that made me $200/2 weeks, misc. web development clients I had, etc. No job, basically free money, I just partied and smoked on and off from last August until 1 week ago.

A week ago I decided enough was enough. I know what I am capable of, and I constantly see kids on here and other forums who start out knowing 1/1,000,000 of what I already know about computers and the Internet, and succeeding in ridiculously short periods of time. I was pissing my life away every day, living a dropout bums life (minus the bullshit minimum wage job), when I could EASILY be living it up as a baller, just as I did in the good ol "glory days".

So I decided it's time for a drastic change. I signed my new lease for my housing for the upcoming school year, packed my shit up, and moved back into my Dad's house. And here I am, my first day of WORK. No TV, no 360, no girls, no parties, no distractions. Just a desk with my desktop, and my Macbook Pro. It's 9 AM (probably the earliest I've been up in a LOOONG time) and I am no longer fucking around.

I am biting the bullet, buckling down, and there are going to be very, very big things from me in the very near future. No more just coasting by, I am taking things to a whole new level, and I want to make this post as my first stepping stone.

My goal list may be slightly short of what many of you will think is insane.. but I know how saavy and experience I am with this shit, and I know what I am certainly capable of.

So that's it guys... Here I am, guns in hand, ready to go. Hopefully this post wasn't too long winded, as I'm sure you guys don't want to hear my life story :) but like I said... I was once living the life and making the ridiculous $$$ everyone here strives to make, and no longer will I let myself be at the bottom.

Keep an eye on me guys, because I am here to stay. I am going to do big things, and I am going to do them very soon.

I look forward to working with all of you guys, and I want to thank everyone for making this place such a wealth of information.

    Rob

PS - Hey CPUGEEK, thanks for that post about your 7 series... that shit was one of my main influences to stop fucking around, and get my shit together. Hopefully I'll be making a post about my new toy pretty soon ;)

Welcome Rob, I am fairly new here myself. What a great place eh?

Myself and a lot of the other newish guys on here (I am sure) would be really interested to follow the ins and outs of your progress either here or in a blog somewhere.

    Hey Rob,

Nice post there. I kind of know what you are talking about as I did some of the same mistakes as you.

Good luck in getting set back up and become that balla that we all love to be. ;-)

Oh I know man... it's because I've been working with computers since I was about 2 years old... literally. I built my first computer with my dad when I was 4 years old. I was browsing the Internet when I was 3 with a 14.4kbps modem. I was very blessed to have a father who was technologically savvy himself, and I followed right in his footsteps. Reason why I started my first Internet business when I was 14. After running that at such a young age all the methods, terminology, and everything on these IM forums comes very, very easy to me... I just have fucking HORRIBLE work ethic and dedication (I've always been a lazy person), very much moreso after smoking as much pot as I did.... Hence the 30 minutes a week/some months without an ounce of work put in... doing just enough to get by... but like I said.. it's time for a change and to put my skills to use!!

Well this sounds great Rob and I can relate to you too as I can be very lazy and I haven't taken enough action with the skills I have. I am sure it is like this for a lot of us. I think your story is inspiring and I send you good luck on your upcoming ventures. Also make a blog as its fun and it also lets people know a little bit about you which builds more trust.
