One day I was quite bored, so I started downloading stuff off the internet to read, stuff from the Downloads section and sometimes movies to refresh... And I realized that I really have a slow download speed compared to the others in the neighborhood, so I went ahead and fetched all the other internet service providers and found one that is offering a package which is double my speed for the same price. I immediately rang my ISP up and kind of threatened them that if they don't offer me a better value then I'm leaving them.

Later that day they called me and told me since I'm a long time customer, they're doubling my internet speed at no additional cost. :D

No. Why are you asking that? Wouldn't you honor your customer's request if he's been doing business with you for long?

Heh, you obviously new to doing business with ISP. :)

    This is how it works:
    - You call ISP1 and ask to join.
    - You call ISP2 and ask if they can offer you better price & speed - they can
    - You call ISP1 and cancel the contract - they ask you why and offer you a better package
    - You call ISP2 and cancel - they ask you why and offer a better package
    - .....

You can stop whenever you like, but the end result is usually 20Mb+ with 6 months free of charge and $5-$7 a month afterwards.

Haha, I don't think that would work that well. They wouldn't know if you are a good customer that would pay his bills on time and not abuse their services.

I actually had the cheapest ISP in the beginning, but that wasn't the case anymore over time.

Well, I switched to that strategy after they tried to fuck me up for being a good customer. When the time to renew the contract came, they pushed me 12Mb for $30/month. The prices on the market were $9/month, but they noticed I'm a good customer and decided that suckers should pay more. :)

Obviously, I didnt like my new 'sucker' status, so I returned the favor.

Yes it does. I got a 25meg deal for about a 25% discount as soon as Comcast became available in my area and Charter no longer had just AT&T to compete against.

The downside of doing business with Charter is getting 2-3 phone calls every month begging u to take some package of their services. The only way I got the telemarketing calls to stop was threatening in no uncertain terms that if they ever called me again trying to sell me their shitty cable TV service that I was done with them and there wasn't a goddamn thing they could say to me to get me to switch from DirectTV to Charter cable. Then I asked to speak to the telemarketer's supervisor and told her the same spiel. Before that, there was about a year of calls every month. Afterwards, they seemed to have got the message. Competition is great.

What did you expect? A blackhat trick to steal more internetz from the guys? ;)

That's what I did and it worked, and I have nothing else to say about it. Actually that was a few months ago.

To the rest: Stop spamming, go elsewhere if you think this is a waste of time.
