The answer is simple. It's because some of your backlinks are being deleted by moderators, which decrease your rankings. Then as you build more backlinks, your rankings increase again. So make sure you are building backlinks faster than people delete them. Do this and you will have better rankings. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

If you grab a new domain and do a Scrapebox blast to auto-approve blogs that have thousands of comments, I assure you that the blog owner is not deleting comments, else there wouldn't be thousands of comments in the first place, or the blog owner would turn off auto-approve. Yet your site will still dance while your backlinks increase.

Lets just accept the fact it is random and there is no real reason behind it.

Very true. At the same time, all it takes is just two or three moderators to decide to delete some spam comments on their high PR blogs, and your ranking will drop drastically while slowly building back up again.

Let us just accept the fact that most of us will continue to think of it as random event and think there is no reason behind it because algorithms do not exist.

is that what you wanted to say??

True but since more comments are being added to the pages you already have links from, the link value is decreased over time. Another case that the link value is decreased over time with comments is that many blogs are limiting the number of comments on the page (let's say by 20), so when your comment is fresh it is in the actual page but when more comments are added it is pushed from the main page.

Unless you work for Google and develop the algorithms behind it, I highly doubt anyone will be able to find out if it hasn't been found out already which is the case. :D

The reason for the dance is so that google can invoke fear into people and instability into ranking thus driving more people to the adwords arena where they can pay for security and a less volatile ranking. = More money for Google!

This is my conspiracy theory of the day... ;)

I think you have this all totally wrong, websites lose links daily and gain links daily all the time, this isn't effecting the rankings as the so called "dance", i have 16 page 1 rankings, and i have noticed recently alot of backlinks have dissapeared, to which have not effected my rankings at all.

I don't even backlink them anymore as they are sites i have lost interest in. with still good page 1 rankings.

However google's so called dance is a very simple answer :

The google dance is google's mass computer system's "algorythm" crawling your site and then revaluating your "content" your votes (backlinks) and thus your rankings shift dramatically up and down, to find the correct search engine place.

It never really ends until the amount of live backlinks you have greatly exceeds the amount mods are deleting. Then your positions tend to stabilize.

There's got to be a reason, there's no way anything Google would do is random. I believe when you follow a certain pattern of backlinking, they will sandbox you.

But afte rall, this is what testing is for!

Also when you do comments lots of blogs have some kind of "latest comments" and such and those kinks will vanish quite fast.

I agree with you. That is why one should make sure that the comments posted make sense or else blog moderators will mark them as spam.
