Bitcoin has problems with blockchain lag, inefficient system, corrupt and centralised devs.

Ethereum is leading in almost every aspect of cryptocurrency and now has enough liquidity to attract larger whales. Check coinmarketcap if you don't believe me. It has 1/2 of Bitcoin 24h volume. That is a HUGE FACTOR.

During homestead ETH was added to Bitfinex and a couple of other exchanges, Ethereum is now the most widely traded cryptocurrency after bitcoin and has over half it's trading volume.

There is STILL no major Chinese exchange that has added ethereum.

Ethereum is virtually unknown outside of the english speaking world.

Ethereum related google searches continue to rise at a huge rate.

The general trend of the chart is still UP.

Panic selling has already occurred and the bear trap was sprung. ETH has bottomed out at 0.020 and has spent the last 12 hours gradually rising to over 0.025

The Ethereum PR machine is now VERY well funded.

Consensys and ETHdev have no lack of funding.

More and more announcements will be coming next week

Slock.it ICO will begin end of march and will convert thousands of bitcoins in to ETH

Ethereum still has zero viable competition and leads in all fields.

Ethereum is nice but it is probably too late to get in now. With a marketcap of ~1bn USD, even multiplying two times will require another 1bn$ flowing into the ecosystem. It is probably a better idea to diversify your portfolio into all the new coins/dapps coming up these days such as lisk, iota, slock, augur etc. where the marketcap is still low and growth potential is high.

The bubble may blast anytime. Its too risky to invest much after a 10X spike has already happened

That is equivalent of saying that it was risky to invest in Bitcoin when it rose from 1$ to 10$.

Think about it. No news outlets are covering Ethereum yet, it is not mainstream yet as Bitcoin is, nobody really knows about it, the subreddits are small. It is a hidden gem in terms of investing.

Then why etherium? Why not other cryptos? I have been trading for some time and ethereum just is too much manipulated. I wasen't there in early days of bitcoin and say how it was like but about etherium, the patterns aren't natural at all. There is too much dump and pump in it. But of course if you are in for a long ride, they may not matter. Best of luck

I think Ethereum may just be too late to the game. The better technology doesn't always win (i.e. the classic VHS vs Beta battle)

Depending on if Banks such as "Bank of America" continues to be interested in Blockchain technology wouldn't it be a better idea to invest in a good company that's investigating & developing this technology?

This is going to sound completely ignorant but I am sincerely asking:

What is the purpose of CryptoCurrency?

I've heard so much about it, but I've never dealt with it nor have I studied much about it.

    I have 80% BTC and 20% LTC

I have seen hundreds of these alt-coins come and go. Nothing last like Gold and Silver :)

If you do get into ethereum dump it as soon as you can profit would be my tip.

People like to speculate on it because it can't be regulated easily and is a law unto itself. Someone starts a currency which uses computing power to solve an algorithm, and when it's solved you gain currency. They by design get harder and harder to solve as they are solved thus requiring more processing power, making them harder to create, driving up the price if there's a buyers market for them. As cash becomes more and more controlled people jumped on the opportunity to speculate on this as it allows anonymous transactions over a large distance, making it better than cash in hand.

The buyers market originally came from investors, darkweb vendors and futurist types. But now you can pay for gigs on fiverr with bitcoin, so it's gaining traction like people originally thought. This is the one neat trick that bankers hate, they would love to eradicate cash and have everyone saddled with debt and stuck using increasingly well controlled plastic.

Been some years since I've dealt with it, I was around when it was around a dollar a BTC so I may be a bit rusty on the specifics.

How's that working out for you? Hope you got some bullion and not paper.

Its all a big gamble really, why not invest your money in an online business you know you'll get a return from. Might not be the same level of return but it will be much safer! Bitcoin is just the same as stocks but waaay more risky.

Personally I think now if you were going to buy stocks or BTC you would be better off buying BTC. The only thing I'd bother buying on stocks right now are puts. The markets are in pretty shitty shape and the worse it gets the better bitcoin does as people try to squirrel away their wealth from a crash.

It is already weighted in the current price, because it is public information.

Diversifying is not a bad thing. Also, not everyone has a brilliant "online business" idea. You would probably not invest all the money in single thing either way.

LTC is not "silver". It is useless, since it does not improve on anything Bitcoin does. It has no advantage. It is useless copycat coin, that's it, sell it now.

Price has nothing to do with liquidity. Difference-time average is all that matters.

Zerocoin is going to consolidate investments all back in to BTC soon. Not that it isn't already consolidated. Your 50k means nothing when there are multiple parties making tens of millions a month and just storing it on the block-chain. The rustling on the reference-client GIT repo is a joke when such power has a dependency on the infrastructure..

Bitcoin also has no competition with difference-time averages. LTC comes the closest but even it is way off.

You don't consider the fact how Ether (the coin) is used. It's not built to grow in value, since the transaction cost needs to be low enough to ensure building dapps on the Ethereum blockchain is worthwhile.

In my opinion the price has been manipulated upwards and will be manipulated to remain at this price point. This way the developent cost is covered and people are still dreaming of the coin value rising to $100, which will never happen for the reason i just gave you.

You can make good money, but i think the ship has sailed to triple, quadruple your stash. ;)

Thank you all guys for the many interesting points of view. i was a crypto currency miner way back in 2013. Got back my capital and made a little cash but the crypto-currency i was mining dipped so bad. It was Doge Coin. Checked a few weeks back and the difficulty level was tremendous. Good thing I didn't choose to hold and dumped all my Doge Coins. Still looking for the right investment though. Got about 500 dollars to invest in something online. Not really sure where I will put it. Yup. I know. Small amount for western standards. But that's about all I could scrouge up right now. I'm in an asian archipelago. A third world country.
