Hey guys, I have a dilemma. I received the dreaded e-mail on a site of mine in September. The site was ranking a lot of kw's. Since then I've sent a few reconsideration requests with links that I thought were to blame for that certain penalty. As usual/expected, I received the reply: "You still have unnatural links", go figure. The funny thing is, with all this going on, I lost about 10-20% of the rankings, the money kw's have not shifted in the SERP's, still stable and reliable. Has anyone encountered this issue before or in the last couple of months? Usually when I got that e-mail, it was quickly followed by an utterly and final disappearance of the site from the SERP's. Has anyone been penalized but not be really penalized by the big G? Has Google add layers/levels to the extent of their penalty and the damage you're supposed to take? Would really need some opinions on this. I'm really baffled. Best regards, UrS.

Pretty much everyone who got those messages have gone down, I have had some messages on an adult niche in the UK and they are still ranking for NON money keywords, but all the money keywords are page 2-3, I have requested a reconsideration for one site, which I hope to bring back to page 1 after i have spent 2 weeks manually disavowing links from a CSV file.

I have a site that grew super quick and was getting a good amount of traffic. Within a month I was getting 190k Uniques a day and was slowly growing and super stable. I got the email. and within 24 hours my traffic dropped to 30k a day.

They said I had an natural lick profile or whatever. I submitted for reconsideration and told them I had done zero SEO and all of the incoming links where completely out of my control. They approved me and my traffic is was almost back to normal within 24 hrs. It is now continuing to grow!

Agreed- 100% Baffling on what the hell they do in the back rooms of Google!

Hmm, it's weird... they should have had this figured out already. Should have made a strict procedure and not take each case differently..

I don't know when this happened to you and when you told them "the incoming links were ocmpletely out of your control", but that is not possible now since they have the disavow tool. You would need to disavow each link.

OP - it's a matter of time before you get the slap.

btw, I haven't heard from any webmaster that has used the disavow tool say that it helped improve their rankings again.

    Quick update.

It's been 5 months since I got the unnatural links email and the site is still ranking strong.

Just for the sake of testing, I eventually reported all my backlinks LOL. The answer was "You still have unnatural links". I wrote them an email informing the staff at Google that they are plain retards, I gave them lots of arguments and explained in detail WHY they're retards but I didn't press the Send button. It's been about 2 months since my last "lift my penalty" request.

After I got the first "unnatural links" notification I didn't create backlinks, not even one, and the site is still on no. 1 spot for lots of money kw's.

So to conclude: If you get the unnatural links notification and you don't drop in rankings right away, don't backlink that site anymore and you'll be safe :)

Hope this info helps you guys.
