    Hi all,

i am thinking about starting up an alternative to rapidshare.com.

i'm a little confused about what kind of hosting should i go for? should i go for a dedicated hosting. obviously unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth would be necessary and which is the best hosting company to go for.

I would like to hear all your opinions, ideas, your experiences in this kind, criticism etc., etc., would be welcome.

    Thanks in advance

I really dont think you will be "big" if you want that. If your going to start one you are just going to have some that is using it, but i may be wrong.

Yeah, it's all about getting the majority to use it. Here the alternative is mediafire, at warez forums megashares, megaupload, netload, filefactory, etc are all the alternatives. You'd be just another fly on the wall hoster.

If you offer downloads without any wait time, or without captchas, that would certainly make you more popular, but you would have a very long way to go.

Most hosts that have unlimited offers have some kind of a catch...

I would start out on a VPS and upscale...

Check out the offers section in www.webhostingtalk.com for cheap hosting deals

you what?:eek: uh...u mean u wanna compete RS or want an alternative for that?
    Alternative is Mediafire.com :D
And about "starting up alternative", you'd need a bunch of dedi servers with loads of space...
all those UL space n UL bandwidth shared hosting are oversellers n won't allow you to host your files...and for those bunch of dedi servers u'd need a lot $$$...:p
