    My site http://www.liquoricelondon.com/ takes ages to open up, and I tried installing w3 total cache and super cache, but they mess up my site.

    I have Quick Cache and WP html cache installed, but is there anything else I could do?

    Thanks guys.

    Switch hosting companies?

    Your host may be slow.

    Either you have fixed your problem or you are mistaken. I just loaded your site in my browser and it was plenty fast. Then I went to tools.pingdom.com and ran a couple tests. For test1, the load time was 4.1 secs. For test2, the load time was 1.5 secs. These times are fine (you will not improve much on 1.5 secs - that is good!).

    I just went through this same problems with about 8-10 of my sites last weekend. Many of mine were taking 8-15 seconds to load. Installing a cache plugin is an absolute must for Wordpress sites. W3 Total Cache is the best cache plugin out there, but it takes a good bit more to set up than the others. The others are generally much easier to set up, but will give you a lot fewer options and a little less performance.

    Seems fine to me, but switching host would solve your issue.

    ok thanks, it seems to have speeded up after installing the two plugins, but every time I install w3 total cache, my sites crashes.

    Enable GZip compression. I use Paul Irish's htaccess file from HTML5 Boilerplate to do it. http://html5boilerplate.com/template/htaccess.txt?.xml

    Code:
    # ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    # gzip compression
    # ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    <IfModule mod_deflate.c>

    # force deflate for mangled headers developer.yahoo.com/blogs/ydn/posts/2010/12/pushing-beyond-gzipping/
    <IfModule mod_setenvif.c>
      <IfModule mod_headers.c>
        SetEnvIfNoCase ^(Accept-EncodXng|X-cept-Encoding|X{15}|~{15}|-{15})$ ^((gzip|deflate)\s,?\s(gzip|deflate)?|X{4,13}|~{4,13}|-{4,13})$ HAVE_Accept-Encoding
        RequestHeader append Accept-Encoding "gzip,deflate" env=HAVE_Accept-Encoding
      </IfModule>
    </IfModule>
    # html, txt, css, js, json, xml, htc:
    <IfModule filter_module>
      FilterDeclare   COMPRESS
      FilterProvider  COMPRESS  DEFLATE resp=Content-Type /text/(html|css|javascript|plain|x(ml|-component))/
      FilterProvider  COMPRESS  DEFLATE resp=Content-Type /application/(javascript|json|xml|x-javascript)/
      FilterChain     COMPRESS
      FilterProtocol  COMPRESS  change=yes;byteranges=no
    </IfModule>

    <IfModule !mod_filter.c>
      # Legacy versions of Apache
      AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/css application/json
      AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/javascript application/javascript application/x-javascript
      AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/xml application/xml text/x-component
    </IfModule>

    # webfonts and svg:
      <FilesMatch "\.(ttf|otf|eot|svg)$" >
        SetOutputFilter DEFLATE
      </FilesMatch>
    </IfModule>

    Took a while to load for me. I would ping your site and ping some other sites to see what the latency is. Ask your host what you should expect.
