I followed the instructions on the port forward website but I couldnt follow them properly cos it wouldnt work.

The info i got initialy from ipconfig /all gave me gateway IP very different from the one in the routers setup page.

but the port forward instructions say to use the routers gateway and ip address but when i did that id get a warning that the subnets were different and if i hit ok it wouldnt work.

It only worked when i put 192.168.x.x as the ip and as the gateway. That let me access the internet again but still the ips were dynamic when testing with what is my ip.

Conversely when i tried putting in the ip info i got from the router as instructed by the instructions it just wouldnt work at all to access the internet. I was trying for an hour with no joy so asking here to see if anyone can see waht i have been doing wrong.

That's your local IP mate. Your public IP can't be made static unless you buy a static IP plan.

So no way to change it to static for proxy auth ips? its getting on my nerves cos it changes all the time like several times a day this auth ip business is a nuisance vs the ol user:pass way im used to which this provider doesnt offer.

Im not paying for a static one.

Port forwarding is for directing external traffic to something like a web server on your network. Like bart said, you can't make your external IP static unless your provider allows it.

Changing several times a day is kinda weird but can't control what the ISP wants to do. They might do that to stop someone from doing something like hosting in their house without buying a static IP.

No way to change it to static yourself. Only your ISP can do that and it usually costs a bit more per month. However, trust me, if you are in IM, dynamic IP-s are the best thing it can happen to you lol, you will never want to change to a static one.

Regarding proxies, I never got it why providers only offer IP authentication ones. They know most of the people have dynamic IP-s, it just makes no sense. They should at least offer 2 options, one being the old username/pass one. If I were you, I would just change provider. Plenty reliable ones with good old username/pass proxies.

I know man dynamic ip is great for everything other than this stupid auth ip shit. It was from actproxy on here and they were like nope we dont do anything else. Im calling them out in the hopes they change their practices cos like you say its backwards in our business.

they are only 4.5 dollar for 10 proxies which is good but that is a dealbreaker. Gigardp also on this forum offered the same prices but with goold old user/pass, however they wont give ranigng subnets. So i guess its time to move back to the 10 dollars for 10 bracket.

I was just doing some experimenting since I had to renew my proxies and get another ten.
