I am ranking #5 for a term that gets around 10k exact searches/month, i was even #1 for 3 days but i am getting only 5-10 visitors from that keyword. The keyword is not seasonal (Check the picture, 8k per month minimum). Usually i get 100 visitors/day for similar keywords and a rank of #5. Can you please help me about the Fu** that is going with that keyword ?

Don't except any traffic if you are not under the top #3, and then the competition is high that means if you are #5 there is 2 ads over them, that means you are #7 everytime

The low CPC should be a good indicator. And try to trust Google and it's tools less. The Google KW tool is one of the few we got but, I don't really trust those numbers. I've seen too many shit in my day regarding the data provided by the big G to seriously start doubting it's intentions.

I hope Google will fall fast to make way for a better search engine. After the new Panda update on 25 june I've seen 8 wikipedia pages on a 1st page SERP. So, eh... I'm off-topic now so sorry.

Whats your long tail looks like? I prefer to cover 100+ keywords, with big ones making the killing.

Is it a buyer keyword? Actually it would help if we saw the first page of google and knew the kw.

This way is like trying to catch a fish with bare hands in the middle of the ocean!

    12,000 exacts =/= a highly searched term.
That breaks down to 400 searchers/day globally

That being said it looks more like 8100 right now. So it's more like 270.

Check your title tag, meta description, as this is a great way to pull traffic.
As others have stated.... at #5 you will receive about 4-7% of the volume (I've done upwards of 10% at #5, but this is because I always make great titles/descriptions that pull traffic)

    Just FYI, 0.04*270 = 11 visitors/day

What he said. We can't really share insight without info. Not giving it up is fine and respected, but don't expect too many answers here without that stuff. Too many variables.

How's your domain? Is it related to the topic? Authoritative?

Check you position with other browsers, the ranking may vary. Also the time influences the ranking.
For that many searches I was getting 40-50 a day at #5.
But the problem with this kind of kw is that people don't buy what you sell.

Don't forget, you have to subtract ~30% of the traffic from the start for clicks that go to ads. If you start with 8k searches only 5,600 of those click on organic results.

Try to change you title tags and meta descriptions. This should help improve click through rates. Its worth trying an easy solution before doing anything else.

You may have bad CTR, your title/meta description isn't attractive or relevant.
P.S. looks like it was suggested.

Happened many times to me but never with a 10k term really. Where Google shows 3k-4k exact searches yet no traffic in top 3. As others have side you cant fully trust the keyword tool provided by Google. A true test would be to run a PPC campaign on the keyword but that will cost you some and if you can't afford to make a loss on some projects don't bother and learn to drop a site and move on, it's hard but there is no point in wasting your money or time on it.

    I got the same :(
I'm on #5 on a keyword without any google ads.
The AdWords tool tells me a monthly search volume of 673.000 requests. That's damn much... but trough this keyword I get 30-40 visitors a day!! Thats 0,10-0,20%! of the requests.

I don't know where's my mistake. Wasted much money to get in the TOP 10, but now there's no result :(

It's a product name keyword with tons of ads, ads with pictures so i thinks it's the reason but i really can't understand that low traffic when i was at #1!!
