I created a pretty cool twitter bot with the help of a friend (don't ask about it, i'm not selling it or showing it) and he got an email saying that this dude wanted to buy it. So I emailed him some screenshots of it and he liked it, so he bought it for 30$. Then right after, he "yelled" at me in all caps saying that it wasn't working and I am a scammer, he then opened up a dispute on paypal. So I tried to help him (for like 2 hours) trying to get it to work for him, he was telling me errors I have never heard of before. So then he demanded I refund him or he wouldn't remove the dispute. So after the refund he says, "oh, well it's working now, thanks. :)" then I spent forever trying to get him to pay me again, but he won't.. Now he's saying stuff like, HAHA i've already gave it to my friends and I'm gonna post it everywhere for people to use for free! Is there anything I can do on paypal, since he stole it and is now attempting to distribute it... Is there a dispute or case I could open? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately once the Paypal dispute is over, it's over. That's the downside of selling intangible items. Paypal will always side with the buyer for some reason no matter what.

That's why bot creators add license verification with ability to kill access to any user at any time.

We hadn't gotten that far because that was just one person... But that doesn't answer my question, is there anything I can do on Paypal? I mean, I have proof where he pretty much says HA, I scammed you.

You can appeal, but as others said they'll favor the buyer always.

Next time insert some protection scheme into your bot, like self deactivation if things go wary.

Man, i would put your efforts into making that $30 back 200 times rather than going after this stupid kid, focus your efforts on the task at hand which sounds to me like developing your twitter bot. $30 is not worth you even trying to chase it, focus on whats more important for the bigger picture.

Is the guy known to your friend? How did he know the email address of your friend? Probably, you could get the guy through your friend

The bot will become obsolete when Twitter updates their interface and so the silly scamming twat will have a useless bot and no updates and support to fall back on.

So find peace of mind with that thought.

This is probably the best way to look at it. Attempting the chase this guy for the $30 is going to be fruitless and hopefully it's lesson learned about selling a bot without licensing validation/protection.

Regardless of what you try to do.. you won't get that money back learn from your mistakes and move forward. Like others have said when twitter updates he's going to have a useless bot.

Lesson learned, next time add protection or licensing that you control on server side for the software you created. Move on OP. :)

It's not about money here, it's about feeling that you have when someone steal your hard work and share product just for fun or for 2 minutes of fame sharing stolen product with "internet friends" on forums.

Paypal wont get involved in a software item at all. Its just best as the others said to move on. Paypal will take ages to reply then says its a non-tangible item.

Even if he appeals and get the 30usd he will have lose the program he made.
You should have added license verification in order to protect your software.

So you went on Teamviewer and tried to help him but it didn't work? So you mean, he modified his operating system so that the bot won't work?

Software for social media is useless in few days without update. Just mail him , "You are dumbass. I going to add N number of extra features in the bot and you are not going to get them. plus that bot will be useless in next few days. "

I contacted paypal, and they refunded my money! They couldn't take his money back, but they just refunded it to me what I lost in the transaction! So thread CLOSED!
