I have a friend who is a notary public. He is trying to make some money on the side by providing his services to whoever needs it.
I am trying to make a website and get some business cards for him.
For his domain, I have several choices:
    notaryinCITY.com
    CITY-notary.com
    CITYnotarypublic.net
    notarypublicCITY.org

As far as the search engines are concerned, I think i should pick one of these. However, I am concerned about the marketability of these. Like I think it would be lame/embarrassing to put this on your business card:
    "visit my website at www.notarypublicCITY.org"

    so what should I do?
I am thinking maybe get one domain for the search engines, and another domain for the business card. maybe his first name followed by notary. He has a very unique and memorable first name. so if his first name is Marley, Marleynotary.com ?

so what should I do? get 2 domains? get one domain?

First buy notaryinCITY.com and then buy marleysecondname.com, use it for the business card and redirect it to the first domain.

A thread that isn't about girl problems?

    I'd also go with notaryinCITY.com

notary City gets about 150 exact searches
notary public City gets about 400
so as much as I like .com, I think I have to go with notarypublicCity.org

You ask. You get two suggestions, both of which suggested the same domain, then you say you're going to go with one of the other two? What was the point of asking then? Trying to hype/promote or are you just a complete idiot/troll?

well I provided additional information, they answered the question not knowing the number of searches.
I do want their opinion given the number of searches.

Why not both? Do both the .com and .org and optimize them both, see which you get better results from. A domain is what, 10 bucks? Check around to find some cheap ways of adding on a .org for next to nothing.

Screw the business card. The one or two people that turn their noses up from the domain won't matter. You're going to get more people from your clicks than a card.

Buy both, put a few 500-1000 word articles on them and plenty of contact info spots.

What is your friends targeted area? For example, if he only wanted to target people in the Pasadena area the domain could be something like PasadenaPublicNotary.org or .com. His targeted are should be involved in the whole S.E.M process and for S.E.O purposes to maximise the potential income from his targeted audience. Of course this is just my opinion so feel free to knock it back if you don't like it, but hope he does well for his business. Feel free to pm me when the site is done, I'll be interested in having a look at it. Also make sure the website is Web 2.0 friendly and has been syndicated with Facebook, Twitter, Digg etc so his businesses social networking presence in the area would be increased too.

how do you make a site web 2.0 friendly? The only way I know how to make a website is to go to a free CSS template site and download a template, and use Kompozer to change the information....I dont know how to syndicate my website with facebook or make it web 2.0 friendly.
