So I'm a music producer making a website to start uploading beats because I feel like its one area I have an edge in (I can make good beats, and I know internet marketing).

    Here's my "plan" so far:

    1. Make profiles at Soundclick, Soundcloud, Rocbattle
    -Open to more suggestions

    2. Set up a website (assuming I should have an html5 player for mobile?)
-Should I use the myflashstore player?

    3. Promote via Facebook, Twitter, Youtube
-Definitely need guidance on this part
-Should I target low comp long tail keywords?

    4. Promote via keyword targeted articles
-Unsure as to which directory to start with (ezine, squidoo etc)

    5. Possibly find a way to become a CB vendor to outsource? (heard about the guy from beats365 doing it)
-Whats the best way to go about doing this?

I also would like to find a way to use email marketing and offline marketing in some ways. Basically I just need everyones help lol and I feel like making this thread will be the easiest way to get started.

I'll make a Journey thread once I get a hardcore action plan done.

    Thanks in advance everyone

PS: I've seen people say $20 is normal for a lease (non exclusive rights) of a beat but I was thinking of doing some crazy promotion like 5 beats for $5 or something. Thoughts?

I am not into music niche but this is what I would do:

Create, let's say 3-5 beats for free but ask for email address so you can set up auto-responder and then people would subscribe to your email list to get the beats. You can even have 1 for free on your site, which could be very short and all, just to let people what kind of beats you do, so then they would opt-in for more.

Then you could start emailing them and selling them your beats, say 5 beats for $5, create another list who actually buy your beats. Then you can start marketing your more expensive beats to those people who bought your previous ones.

Why not create membership based site where people pay you like $50/mo or something and you provide x beats per month for free (you obviously make monies from rebills and stuff).

As for marketing, you can do Facebook PPC, Google AdWords ... why not use that short beat demo on youtube and then sponsor that video? You can try youtube advertising as well. Buy banners on related music sites ... options are quite limitless here ...

I'd put in my 2 cents regarding the kind of links you'll need to rank.

Make a list of 50 top sites in your niche and look up their backlinks via ahrefs, OSE or majestic. Then you should attempt to get links from those same sources. I know its tough work, but trust me, its worth it.
