I have a website that is ranking on page 2 of Google for my main search term. Its a ".info" domain and the site is about one year old. When I first purchased the domain and built the site, I built backlinks from lots of Social Bookmarking sites. I also did thousands of blog comments and I think that didn't go too well with big G and my site was penalized and was off SERPs for a few months. I just abandoned the project and after a few months I found it back on the SERPs. Now for the last 2 months it has consistently been climbing up the search results. Its now sitting on Page 2 (for the last few weeks) and it looks like it'll stay there for a while. When the site was penalized it had over 2k backlinks but now yahoo site explorer shows only 59 backlinks. Most of those that have stuck are the social bookmarks.
I now want to try and take this to page one. But I am not sure what I should do because I don't want to screw up and get the site off the results or down the rankings again. The onpage SEO is up to the mark and the site has good content on it already. What I had in mind was a good mix of Angela style profile backlinks with backlinks from Article sites. Or should I keep this pure whitehat?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
