I am in the process of launching a new hosting company. We have set up with one of the best data centers in the US.

I have been racking my brain on what I should charge for hosting accounts. You have hostgator which is cheap and then you have rackspace which is on the high end.

help me come up with my package deals
    what to offer and pricing.

    Thanks for the help

Please i would like feedback on what people think about pricing

Let us know in specific what you're planning to offer in each package. What do I get in the small package, the middle package and the big package?

Also, take a look at your competitors prices and judge from there what you're offering that they aren't and why you should be pricier/cheaper. Try to beat their prices or what you're providing. As you can see on Gator and Rack is that there are customers for both price categories.

The ideal is to land somewhere in-between. Maybe offer a cheap package (12/mo, like HostGator) but also include a exlusive package (150/mo, like RackSpace). Then you target both customer categories.

Then you should look at offering something beyond what they are doing with their cheapest package. HostGator is already a established hosting company and people won't really change to an equal hosting deal but if they get something beyond what HostGator offers - they most likely will.

Just to clarify, I am not some pricing expert. This is just my personal opinions and common sense to me - there might be others that are more suited for this question then me. These are just my 2 cents.

    Best of luck! :)

our main think that we are doing is we are not going to over load our servers like godaddy does. while they make more money doing this it slows down the websites. We are also going to offer ddos protection to all our shared and reseller and have it as an add on for the dedicated servers.

I feel that both godaddy and hostgator has moved toward going after more of the mom and pop and fly by night business instead of real companies that are going to be here today and tomorrow. so that is really our real target is i would say mid size companies and larger. while we will offer reseller hosting which will be on their own servers we are not planning on being the bulk of our business.

I would say, look how much you pay and then do x2.

Like if you pay 10usd for 2 tb traffic, then you sell 500gb for 5 usd. (do this also for diskspace and so on)

Real companies use services like say rackspace (as you mentioned) and small sites go down the route of the cheapest.
So how are you any different? Can you sustain not overcrowding servers with customers? I'd focus on differences here rather than price as I doubt solely on that you will stand a chance (so many cheap hosts excluding Godaddy, hostgator and servers can be had really cheap too)
