First of all I would like to introduce myself to everyone on this forum. My name is Chaz Klein and I am currently a 19 year old student at The Illinois Institute of Art - Schaumburg. I am going there to acquire a bachelors degree in Web Design & Interactive Media. I know a pretty decent amount about web design, but I am just starting my journey in this wonderful world of web design. I hope to learn much from BHW and eventually give back a lot to the community as I continue my schooling.

So heres the problem though. I started a new fitness website/blog that I have been doing a lot of work on. The SEO seems pretty well setup, at least from what Ive read and know-which isn't that much. I setup all my adsense and amazon affiliates and all that looks great.

When i search my website in google without the www the title and description I have setup shows for it. But when i search it without the www in front, it comes up as "just another wordpress blog" with the generic description that comes with it.

I have put a lot of time and effort into getting my website backlinks also. I just need some advice or someone to tell me how to fix this, because all I want to do is move forward with my site but this is a giant roadblock i need lifted!
I have also submitted my website to a boatload of forum backlinks (Pulie Ciara) with the www, And I dont want all of this to go to waste.
If someone could please help me out that would be great! I am just stuck as of right now and want to move forward with my site!

I hope everyone the best and please help a newbie out :)
    Thank you!!
    Chaz

You can do a 301 redirect, to the www listing in your htaccess file. The issue is that the www and non-www urls are different per G since the www is a subdomain of the domain. They can actually rank very differently (I've had this issue before). Just do a redirect to the one you want to use. I've also gone the route of having both in my webmaster tools so I just have the same sitemap in each listing. Seemed to work fine, both showed the recent info when viewing them in G.

Use your htaccess to redirect the non www to www

    If you prefer http:mydomain.com
    your .htaccess must contain :

    Code:
     RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.mydomain\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule (.*) http://mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
    If you prefer http://www.mydomain.com
    your .htaccess must contain :
    Code:
         RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mydomain\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www(dot)mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

As you have already started backlinking to www I'd use the second code

the other way to do this would be to go to the control panel for your web hosting provider and set up the redirect that way.

Thank you so much guys, I appreciate it!

One question. okay im in the control panel in bluehost for redirecting.

    Now it says: www mysite
redirects to: then i typed in the one with WWW before it.
under neath it says 4 options:
    only redirect with www
    redirect with or without www
    redirect without www

so im thinking i should have the top say:
    mysite instead of www site
    and redirects to www site

Correct? or which option should i choose?

It is now saying that there are to many redirects?

This webpage has a redirect loop

Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects.
