say i am looking for my website to get ranked high on google for an artist by the name of johnny appleseed

in my heart of hearts i want to go with a really creative web url that would not have the word "artist" "johny" or "appleseed" but this would be completely stupid right? to leave out such important keywords in the web url? if people are searching for "johnny appleseed artist" and my url doesnt even have these words then certainly it wouldnt get indexed right?

so wouldnt it be best in terms of SEO albeit incredibly dull and boring to name my site "johnnyappleseedartist d-o-t-c-o-m" ? or "ArtistJohnnyAppleseed d-o-t-c-o-m" ? wouldnt that be the best in terms of wanting my site to have high rank on google? now i know that url name is not the only thing that contributes to your ranking but it does hold a lot of weight doesn't it?

any advice would be appreciated thanks

Well, it would be easier to rank that site with that name, but if the domain doesn't contain these words, doesn't mean that it will not rank.

If your onpage SEO is good, it will rank with a couple of links.

The question is, do you have the rights to use this artist name as a domain?

Of course it would be better if you can use his name in the domain.

It's not like there's a TON of artists named that right??? If the domain had the name it's make life easier, but I'm not convinced artist HAS to be... like the other guys said, sites without a emd do rank all the time. Do whatever you feel is right.

It'll rank alright, but watch out for someone else to get the EMD later on and become unnecessary competition. Might wanna cover that.

I believe he's saying you may want to purchase the EMDs even if you don't intend to use them, so that no one else can register them and get an advantage over your domain while you're trying to rank your site (which will be lacking the keywords in the URL itself).

I don't think that using the word "artist" in the domain is needed. The people who would search for that name would already know that he is an artist. Also the domain is shorter without that word and easier to remember. That is why you have a meta description - use it to describe that he is an artist.

But I checked the domain and most of the domains with his name are already taken. So including a word like artist or something else describing his work would be a good idea.

    Here are some suggestions:

    appleseedartist . com
    johnnyartist . com
    artistJA . com

But the name it self is not so important. What is important is that it has to be short, simple and easy to remember.

I hope that this was helpful :D
