I'm trying to find the best approach on getting paid after closing a deal over the phone

do I request an email address and send paypal payment request

or its better to send them to a website with a button on it?

I know some people may consider my question not that smart but I'm looking for people with experience who have done this to share their expertise and best practices regarding this area

    thanks in advance

You should finish payment before hanging up, process their credit card over the phone. A person who places an order over the phone, wants to use the phone. They don't want to visit your website, they don't want to use PayPal, or they would have already done that.

Simplest example: Do you call a pizza place for delivery and give them your order only to have them say "Alright, your order is placed, please visit www.payformypizza.com to pay for your order." Nope, they take your payment over the phone immediately or they do cash on delivery. If the person wanted to order pizza online, they would have done that. Instead they called because they want the entire process to be done over the phone.

You could also look at Paypal's "Get $XX.xx from xxx-xxx-xxxx"... When your costumer acknowledges that the sale has been made, you use a 2nd (cell) phone and send the "get" message. Pretty much a text message invoice until its paid, but it allows you to use PayPals collection processes, while also seeming like you are reputable, because hey, "only legit companies can afford to have such a digital infrastructure."

    Just an idea

I was going back through the forum and re-read your question and I have to say something.... If you are looking for specif payment solutions etc then just read whats already been said, however.....

Your question is "how to get paid after closing the sale over the phone."

The problem I have with that question is that you use the word "close" as if its already happened prior to receiving payment or working out payment details and having your customer actually pay.

At this point, when you're trying to figure out how to ask for payment with whichever payment process you choose, you are "closing" the sale... You haven't yet "closed" anything. The point in time that starts when you believe the customer is willing to pay and ends when the customer has paid is the "closing".

The mere fact that your are asking the question without proper regard to your use of the word "closing", says that you don't realize an entire industry, people's entire careers that is, are dedicated to accomplishing this very challenge.... "how do we get paid after the client says yes?" Because a "Yes", is not the same as a "Ye...--->>$$$$ ...YES!". A simple "yes" or client signifying that they are willing to pay, is not the same as a client coming off the hip for something that they might not want if given enough time or confronted with the thought of actually, physically, spending hard earned dollars.

Do you know why this little time period can support an entire industry and workforce of "closers"? Because closing is a remarkably intricate skill. When well trained and experienced at closing, you could be the most valuable asset within any organization. But any who, whether you "go for the close" with a minor or major "close" question or order, and get confirmation from the client, the real "close" hasn't occurred until they give you money, or sign that bullet-proof dotted line.

Like I said though... If you're just looking for payment solutions over the phone, there are plenty. Most any CC terminals allow manual input of credit card info. Dinosaur customers still have fax machines. And my personal favorite is the text to pay invoice from Pay-Pal.

    Good Luck
