Hello!

I need some help from BHW experts.....

I want to start building my first ever website. So just recently I bought a domain using Namecheap and purchased a Hatchling Webhosting Package at Hostgator.

Do I need to transfer the domain to my Webhost(Hostgator)?

How?

Sorry for this totally NOOB question!

You don't need to transfer the domain over, just change the name servers. I'm not quite sure how the hatchling hosting plan works for adding the domain though. Let me get a little more detail. Is your hosting account set up already?

Hi.

They emailed you all the information for the account probably just after paying (it's instant.)

Look for the nameservers in that account info email They're there.

they'll look something like this

ns10781.hostgator.com
ns10782.hostgator.com

there will be two of them.

Once you get those, copy them/open up another browser/whatever... go to godaddy. login. go to my domain name manager.

Click your domain name, then find and click 1 of the buttones that says something like "Change Nameservers" or "Update nameservers"

You'll click a circular checkbox that says Use custom nameservers (last option)

Then replace the two default ones that are already in field 1 and 2 with your godaddy ones, in order. the first one in the email as the first nameserver, second one in the email as the second.

Then click update.

Hostgator normally changes the DNS very quickly for me. But allow upto 48 hours for http://www.yourdomain.com to become available.

You'll know once the DNS has propogated when you go to your domain name.com or whatever, and you DONT see the landing page/you see some hostgator default page.

Then use the file manager in your Cpanel login at http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel (hostgator emailed you the info) and use the File Manager to edit/create your site.

This is exactly what I did. But I figured it out before reading your post.

Thanks!

change your nameservers mate... its self explanatory on namesearch after you login

Let me know if you need any other help with the setup

I am using Nvu but the ftp upload to hostgator is giving me a head ache. I am just trying to upload my .html files and pics to be online. What could I be doing wrong? I am uploading to the right directory??? The publishing status has been publishing forever now!

Ok well i used Nvu to create but their ftp sucked for me. I used filezilla to upload my site and it worked fast and great. - Now I have to figure out how to get the pics in the right folder so they can load on my site.

Ok so i solved my problem - the thing with host gator is that i didnt need to keep my images in the images folder but keep them in the public_html folder along with my index.html file. So all is good now for me :)
