So, I changed the title tag on a page about 10 days ago and now Google de-indexed the page!

It's not even in the top-1000 ranked sites for the keyword.

Same thing happened on a totally different page on a different site. I changed
that title tag too and now "POOF", it's gone too.

Why does Google penalize for changing a title tag and how do I get them back?

    Anybody know?

Because you changed the title tag that was related to the keyword you were targetting. When you rank for a keyword don't fuck with anything, especially a title tag or a h1 tag. Those have huge seo factors in Google's eyes.

    Hi
First doesnt mean you are not indexed just because you are not in the top 1000. Just search for "site:link".
It's totally normal, just wait and your website would come back again, specially if you already have backlinks. (if you followed SEO rules when changing the title tag).
    regards

    Thanks for that tip!

I did a "site:" search in Google and all the pages of my site are still indexed.
Yes, I already have over 1,000 backlinks to the entire site.

Since the homepage dropped in the SERPs, I have been sending more
backlinks to the HP and I wrote a press release for the site.

The PR has a few anchor links to the HP in it and is currently sitting in the
#1 spot in Google News for the main Keyword term.

I will just keep backlinking the site and be patient.

I agree. This is the reason. Your title tag is probably the most important of seo factors. It tells google what your site is about.

Should I change the Title tag back to the way it was or just leave it alone?

No. If you think that the change is better why would you change back? Just give some time and your website may climb again.
