    Hey guys,

I am planning to buy the ZTE MF70 data card for my son, and though he is also a member here, I don't think he would spot this thread. :D This one is 21.1 Mbps data card, 3g/2G USB Modem + WiFi support. If you ask me, I've absolutely no clue about such a data card. :)

As said, I have no clue about the data cards, and I couldn't find a better review or two so that I can make up my mind. The cost is around INR 1,250, or could be a bit more --NPs on that front. This one is fully unlocked to accept almost all GSM sims... my son is using Airtel and also Vodafone on his 3G Sony Xperia, and has his laptop, where this one will go (WOW! I at least know about data cards that much! hahaha).

He is staying alone in Bangalore, about 600kms away from where we stay, and is working there as a Sr. SW Engineer. I can't consult him about his choice, because I'm sure he will not allow me to buy it then. :)

So guys, help me to know how good or bad it is (if you are, or have been using it). Any other better one from your personal experience, if this data card is not good in your opinion? And please also tell me what plan you're using and how much is the avg. monthly cost for you? I am planning to buy it by Monday...

    Thank you so much! :)

It's better to let your son chose or buy what he wants when it comes to gadgets or any electronics for that matter, these(IT/SW people) guys know what exactly they want.

Airtel now offering 4G in 3G cost, so better choose a 4G supported dongle.

4G had skipped me entirely! OK, how would this be?
    HUAWEI E3276 LTE TDD 100 Mbps 4G/3G/2G USB Modem / Datacard FOR ALL 4G 3G 2G SIM...

Airtel + 4G would be ideal, and it would help him too.

If I ask him, he will not let me buy and he will buy it only at the 11th hour... :) I want to break his bad(!!) habit of staying happy with less luxuries :). I wish he has every needed thing handy. Actually I wanted him to have this since a year, but he kept it pending. Now he could be working on a very big freelance project, which came up just this morning, and I know that the data card is the most important need of the moment.. But knowing him, he will still wait till the almost 12th hour! Hence, the hurry and the Gift.:).

If I were him I'd have ordered it right in the middle of the local and important meeting he was in this morning....lol. Patience was never my strongest point, unlike him. :D

Yeah better if you let your son get his choice as its not a very big amount of sum and if later anything goes wrong he would surely yell at you.

Atleast I do the same with my dad.

It's a gift... and naah, he will not blame me if anything breaks. Anyway many things have been broken before, and I know he is the happiest when his pa gifts him something... he will not show but his eyes definitely will! And also he is the person who will use the gift even if it is not what it should ideally be. Another thing... he still asks me or his mom if he has to spend some more money on something, whether it is very costly or not. And then he will ask 10 more times if he did the right thing (even if he knows it was indeed the right thing) in buying it. And hundred times we both tell him not to worry at all! lol.

So much better that we buy it for him. lol. Like to see the twinkle in his eyes after he gets the surprise! :)

    P.S.:
He many times "yell" at his mom -- he is so close to her you see. lol. But he never yells at me... never! Sometimes I wonder whether my wife know how to handle the children much much better than me. Hmm... lol. In fact when I get real angry at him, not so much nowadays but that was definitely when he was still in school... he goes into a shell and looks very hurt. He will never want to see his dad hurt, and never -- because of him.......

It's nice to see dad and son in the same forum having same interest :) I've used huawei 3g datacard in the past, so I'd say go with huawei but make it has 4g support. Your other option would be the airtel 4g dongle, you could also try it out an test its data transfer speed in any Airtel outlets.

Honest! What you said was on my mind and I was ABOUT to go to the nearest Airtel outlet NOW!
Because it began raining hard -- that too is actually very welcome sight because our parts didn't had rains for almost 3 full rainy-season months! It had rained somewhat 3 days back, but today's rainfall is simply very soothing to the mind!

A girl who lives in a house behind our independent house works there, and I had planned, all the time during the last 2 days, to meet her to know about the Airtel 4G dongle and had always forgotten to meet. I wanted to go there today to see it.

Btw, I made him join the forum :D. He wanted to bid for some HAF jobs through me, but I insisted that he does it himself. Still he find very little time from his offline job where he handles many SW clients simultaneously, as he is the top coder in the office. :). Blackhat -- he has absolutely no idea about it, and is least interested in BH things... May be we don't have the BH gene in our blood! lol

Haha! I tested the airtel 4g dongle in the airtel outlet couple of days back. This is the stats I got

    Download Speed: 38 Mbps
    Upload Speed: 5 Mbps
    Ping: 8 ms

Hope this helps you decide :)

Same goes with me. I do feel like asking my mother and father before purchasing or investing anything as they have seen the world better than me.
You both seem like caring a lot of each other.

Wish you success with the choice.
    Cheers

Today I ordered this, got the lightning deal for Rs1,740 odd...

    http://www.amazon.in/dp/B00I07U3LG/ref=pe_386221_48200641_TE_item

It won't give 4G performance though because at present, only Airtel provides 4G service and is locked to their own datacard device. But otherwise this gives excellent performance and is unlocked....
