I have been a troll on BHW for a little while now, but I post on occasion. BHW got me started into my newest hobby, I have been dabbling in KW research and domain collecting. I collect domains mainly that I think I could eventually build into a high PR website with real content based on subjects I am very knowledgeable in. In my searching today I stumbled across a long tail keyword with low competition and almost 1 billion searches per month. I though great! Lets see if the domain is available which as we all know the exact KW domain is never available. Well of course the .com is already registered so I navigate to the page and its just parked....doing nothing. So I go and see that the .net is available so I went ahead and bought it.

My question is, did I find a diamond in the rough, or am I getting a little too ahead of myself?

Thanks for the help and any advice you all may have for me.

Make sure the 'exact' box is checked in the Google Adwords keyword tool. If you're looking at broad results then yes, you've gotten ahead of yourself.

    If it is "exact".......wow.

You won't know for sure until you build a site rank it and monetize it. There are diamonds in the rough, you just have to make sure its a real diamond :)

You are getting a little bit ahead of yourself, but that is OK.

    1. You probably didn't tick the "exact" box. You can search for broad, exact or phrase numbers. You want to search for exact. This will reduce it significantly.

    2. Did you select a specific country? For this, you will want to make sure you have United States highlighted. Ensure that it is highlighted and that you look at LOCAL search numbers, not global ones.

    3. Let us say you did find a diamond; the truth is, that phrase must be incredibly popular and it will probably be a small phrase, either 1-2 words. The chances are, the competition is going to be very high no matter what. EMD's have value but it is a lot smaller these days, they aren't your ticket to riches. Be ready for a long, hard slog!

But congratulations on taking ACTION! Its taking action that will get you somewhere :)

Nah you just forgot to untick broad and tick exact in the leftside panel of AdWords Keyworld Tool.

On match type always check the exact, and uncheck the broad. Check the location of the keyword too.

Personally, when I started IM, this is my first mistake. I dont want to happen that mistake to you buddy.

Well, you guys were right on of course. I do usually remember to check off exact when I search but this time I forgot:stupido:

I guess there is some good news, although the search results are not as high as I had hoped, after changing to exact this is what I got as a result.

    Competition: Low
    GMS: 6,600
    LMS: 2,500
    CPC: $10.76
Exact Domain: .net available, .com is parked and unranked

Now I am no pro, but perhaps I could use this as a base for my first micro/mini niche site? Google results for my KW don't show much as far as competition so I am optimistic. I guess the only thing left for me to do it get my feet wet and go for it!

Appreciate all the help guys, I get more and more interested in becoming a successful IM'er everyday!

Competition in the google keyword tool doesn't mean that much when it comes to keyword ranking. Or did you use Market Samurai? I haven't used MS in years so I can't tell. Congrats on finding the keyword though

For ranking competition I just google search my keyword and see what comes up on the first page, make sure there is no authority site already built up taking the top slots, check where my KW shows up in site descriptions, and url. I will have to take a look at Market Samurai, as I have never used it before.

that sounds like perfect keyword for MNS..go for it..build site

with cpc $10..and if you can rank it #1

    You will get 1500 uv/month
    thats 150 adsense clicks/month
    thats 150X0.6 = $90/month

You have your $100 site waiting for you :)
