I personally use this method mainly for link building proposes.


You contact charities offering them you will create or redesign they website for free. In exchange for any or all above that's up to you. You can search charities on Facebook or search in google for poorly looking websites then contact them directly offering you will create or redesign they websites for free. You can send them message looking like this:
"Hello

My name is Paul I'm SEO specialist and web designer. I would like to help some good people and offer you my services for free. I could help you with creating your website or redesign existing one, (write hear what else you are willing to do).

Ok I know some people now thing what's a catch?

And there is one I ask you for small favors would you be willing to Post on your social media profiles short note about me and that I design your website for free. I also ask you for attribution to me on your website (I design for you) I would like to include link to my website in a footer and it would be also nice if I would be mentioned in contributors page, friends page or something like this. I also want to include your website in my portfolio so clients can see my work.

If you are interested please mail me back.

So you create win-win situation in which you help charity for free and get back something that cost them nothing but may be very valuable to you. And probable most important in this method (at list for me) you do good deed. And if you are experience in making websites you can create it in couple hours you don't have to offer something fancy that will take 2 weeks to complete. I just use some elegant theme WordPress template change color according to they needs, ad logo, ad pages they want that's it. My record is website in 20 minutes from getting login credentials, they had awful looking website but based on WordPress and send me example of website they like. Quick search in example website code I find it is also WordPress and what theme it used I downloaded theme uploaded it, customize it and that's it they were stunned and very happy how fast I did exactly what they want.

• Quality links - You can get strong links to your website, charities often get some natural links from other websites and if you are lucky they may get some national coverage from national news websites that ultimately would send SEO juice to your website.
• Buzz around your business - People like People who have hearth and help other People (how many times I can say people in sentence so it won't sounds silly ? ) you will get some social media exposure some likes, shares and some people visiting your site.
• Get referrals for your normal payed service -Some of this buzz can change in to leads that ultimately give you money, also people who own charities often have good connections and if someone ask them if they know any web designer there is good chance they will refer them to you.
• Get website for your portfolio - this is specially valuable point for new web designers so they can get the portfolio running. But it is also good selling point you can include on your website page "charity work we did" or something like that and if someone see on your website you help charities for free they are more likely to use your service.
• Earn couple extra bucks from hosting companies - this one may be a little bit controversial but when you agree on creating new website the charity probably will need domain and hosting (you can offer your hosting for free but honestly I don't do this you don't want to change in to hosting support and from my experience that what would happen if you offer your hosting) but don't be an asshole hear. Be 100% honest with them and don't require them to use your affiliate link in order to build them website. Say something like this "If you don't have hosting jet I suggest this one (link) they have reasonable rates and good support, also I want to be 100% honest with you this link is my affiliate link and if you use it I get some commission from hosting company it won't cost you any additional money but it would be nice "thank you" from you but I don't require you to use it if you don't want too." You can include couple hosting to choose ect.

So if you like this concept find some charities near you help them and if you believe like me in "what goes around comes around" then I can assure you, you will get much more then you give!

It would also be good if OP donates some of the money he makes off their referrals to the poor starving children.

I actual do that but as private person. I'm member of nonprofit organization that focus on children, teenage and students. We try to get them off computers and show them you can have fun without it.

In a way i already do this. In my country you may pay 1% of your taxes to charity rather then government. I pay my to foster home. If i earn some decent money from referrals then i will consider this but my business is Affiliate Marketing not web design or SEO service. Also as a rule any commission from hosting providers I decided to use to offer web designed to more charities.

I run a charity myself.The little assistance from your part, makes a bigger positive impact than you might think. I always say, little by little, a little becomes a lot. You can make a difference even if you aren't getting back as much as you would like.

Take some time when you are bored or have some free time and help a charity in your community.

Most donors prefer their donations being spent directly to the specific cause and don't often see the benefit nor do they like their donations being spent on things like design and SEO which makes it hard at times to get properly done SEO paid for.

This is an amazing idea, thank you for sharing it, it would help alot of people

Thx, that is my point most of charities specially smeller ones have websites that don't look so good and many people don't understood how much difference good website can make.

And btw you can think about this method like "guest posting" for more technical guys that don't like to write but like tech stuff.

Get tax break based on the value in service you donated
Listed on their site might get you future paying clients

Nice, I didn't now that is possible in USA. But unfortunately I don't know if this work that way in my country. I hope it will help some one else.

If it is a registered non-profit, it should be the case, otherwise there is little use in registering it as a non profit as apposed to a regular business.
