After reading some posts on offline success i decided to take action. But i need help from you guys as i am just starting. I am following path of 7878 but will use tips and suggestions given by other members too .

    What i have bought :
    1. Custom made color envelopes . ( 100 piece for $9.20)
    2. Brand new Epson Ink tank system printer . ( for $210 )
    3. Dice 96 pieces . ( for $2.65 ) .
    4. 2 RIM (1000 pieces ) A4 photocopy class paper ($6.44)
    5. Strip record folder to put printed whitepaper (7878's ORM whitepaper) in it and give to potential client to read at time of meeting. (30 piece for $6)
    6. Postal department will charge me $0.74 each for express parcel .
Total cost to send 100 letters : Approximately $330

What i have done at name of preparation :
    1. Found a niche .
    2. Collected address of many shops in that niche . All of them are adjacent to each other .
    3. Checked their reviews on google local and other major local search engines. Some of them have couple of 'poor' reviews and others no review at all !

Planning to post letters on first week of april as new fiscal year is starting from 1st april and in march all of them are busy like hell in finalizing their old deals, tax returns etc so i do not think it will be right to buzz them in march .

I will try to update this thread daily . Feel free to give me suggestions .

I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. I, too, am looking into starting my own offline venture. I'll be following this thread.
I'm also curious as to how anybody could tell that you're targeting the Indian market.

If it's USA/Canada try Manta or RefUSA, another option regardless of location is to call them and tell them you are making sure your local business database (or whatever!) is up-to-date. Ask them if the following address is right, then say the address you have for them (you should have this). They should answer, "yes". Do the same for company name and phone number, which they should answer to both with a "yes". Finally ask for name of owner OR say a random name. They should give you the name or correct your random name with the correct name. Then thank them for their time + cooperation and hangup. When using this method, make sure your voice is in friendly mode :D I learned this method from a Cold Calling book.

Are you waiting until after the calls so you can really personalize the letters? Be careful on April 1st, they might think you're a prankster ;)

You don't need their names. Just put their store name or if they have any website, try to find from there or whois :)

Calling starts by tomoro so they do not consider me a prankster :p

Most of them do not have websites and those who have, outsourced to some agency to run and maintain it so whois record will be available only of agency , not real owner. I think by using store name, it can end up in hands of their employees and it will be in best interest of employees to not let it go in hand of owner ;)
If i do not find name of owner, will use store name :)

I just read all thread, but couldn't realize what you are actually doing, sorry for me not catching it. Can you please explain what exactly you are trying to "offer" or "sell" them?

I get that you are on an offline adventure, and you are trying to contact the owners, but what for?

EDIT: Just realized there's a thread regarding this topic. Search for "7878" those who didn't get it, like me.

Calling is complete to all 22 businesses in ma niche listed on local business directory. Some contact no. were wrong, some not working, one denied to tell owner name and asked to come at store to have info. One was outside of city . So i got total of 12 names of business owners out of 22. Now preparing to send mail . stay tuned for update :)
