That's some useful information. You never know when a heart attack can happen.

This is very valuable, my ex suffered a heart attack just recently and he is only 40 years old! We have kids together and though we are not together this really upset me. and the thing is when he had it all he had was aching shoulders and couldn't sleep. He drove himself to the hospital and they said he was having a heart attack.

He is very much into sports and plays football and basketball with my sons. He just got back from a ski trip and this happened.

You never know when something like this is going to take place.

Get help ASAP. Flag down another motorist and call 911--don't waste time coughing when you could be getting help faster.

Also, take Aspirin asap. Chew up 4 baby aspirin or 2 adult aspirin in your mouth and let them dissolve. (About 320mg -- They will go into your bloodstream about 15x faster than via your stomach if you chew and keep them in your mouth.) Aspirin disables/removes one type of platelet in the blood that often causes heart attacks forming clots--Aspirin is absolutely the #1 best thing you can do besides getting help ASAP if experiencing chest pain. (Also, if you're prescribed nitro take that--but in that case you'd probably know anyway.)

(I'm an EMT--this is coming from my training.)

Coughing to restart your heart doesn't even make sense. There is no way you can cough hard enough to get your heart pumping again, you probably have better luck beating on your chest with your fist.

Anyway the intention was nice. Thanks

I'm way more afraid of a stroke than a heart attack...

Yes, stroke is a nightmare. I had a family member who had to suddenly end his active lifestyle because of a stroke. From a super sportsman he became an invalid.

Another item to add...if you use alternative medicine, is keep liquid cayenne pepper handy. It will jump-start your heart quickly. There are some Drs. that say they keep it with them when they travel so they are able to assist someone having a heart attack.

I used to run every day, l am a veggie man ,l played squash 3 times a week and a fitness fanatic don't smoke, don't drink alcohol but still had a heart attack, now the docs say l need to take things easy no more impact sports was l just unlucky or is it in the genes or is it just fate?

I didn't even realise that l was having a heart attack, l woke up at 4am sweating so badly nothing l could do could cool me down then then the pain hit my chest and struggled to breathe.
I owe my life to the ambulance man and woman who came to me within 5 mins, ended up having two stents inserted and left with a life full of tablets each day.

You really have to go through it to understand what effects it has on you, it took a year for the depression of loss of quality of life to get any better.

I have been full time on the internet since 1996 and have made a lot of money but would swop every penny to be able to run again.
