Before you hit that back button !!
If you think that this thread is very long and you'll read it some other time you will mark it or something .. DON'T because that's EXACTLY What is this post about .. finding those lazy excuses to run away .

Ok so before i start .. for some this thread might be a waste of time , as it's pretty long , took me 3 hours and a half to write , so read the summary first ! I think this topic is VERY VERY VERY important ! and concerns at least 30% of IMers . I hope i can help some.

NOTE 1: I'm not affiliated in any way , shape or form , with any website/video of the resources in this thread
NOTE 2: English isn't my primary language nor my 2nd ... it's my 3rd language so bare with me here (i know that some hate it when we apologize about our grammar .. but who gives a shit !)

    Summary :

I] Intro : Me and how i found out about this .
II] What is it : Simple Definition .
III] Symptoms : The most important symptoms .
IV] How you can make sure that you really have it .
V] What treatments are available for it .
VI] Resources that i gathered to know more about this .
    VII] Final words .

    I] INTRO :

So , today while i was browsing the internet i stumbled upon a HUGE thing that opened my eyes BIG time on reasons why i can't focus in school , IM and every other thing in my life ! I'm gonna go over who i am how i struggle with this and how i found about it , skip to the next bit if you want . So i'm a 21 years old guy from Tunisia who studies Computer Science and going to get my Graduate degree in 2 years and i have always struggled with my ability to focus in classes , i get distracted easily , i procrastinate a lot and i can't get myself to do important stuff like homework , my home shores , take out the trash , go to the store (unless i'm forced) , clean my room , get up in time , do the daily shit .. I ALWAYS POSTPONE EVERYTHING ! All my life i thought this is normal laziness turns out i was DEAD WRONG .. i live in a 3rd world country and nobody here knows about this , never been educated about it .. till i found out my self .. it's a funny story how i found about it today .. i was watching a video of Ray William Jhonson on YT .. and he said ... ''someone give him some 'Adderall' . " here : http://youtu.be/-pLiUR1E-lg?t=1m55s . So i was curious what's Adderall , a quick google search was an Eye Opener .. i spent almost the past 24 hours looking up this issue !! . Enough boring side stories .. let's get to the point .

    II] What Is It ?

Basically it's called ADD or ADHD : Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder .. and simply what it is it's a
a psychiatric disorder that makes you lose Focus quickly and can't concentrate on the things that you SHOULD do .. you can spend countless hours on things that you Love doing .. but you can't do something that you MUST do ! it's most common between the children and teenagers .. but adults have it too , so there's no age limitations for it .
It usually results in poor school grades and lack of concentration at work , jumping from something to another , impatience and overall laziness .

    III] Signs & Symptoms :

Here's the symptoms that you should look for that mean that you probably have ADHD :

    Lack of Focus
    Difficulty Getting Organized
    Extreme Distractibility
frequently forgetting appointments, commitments, and deadlines
    tendency to brainstorm/procrastinate
Hyper-focus (when you do stuff you enjoy , you can spend countless hours without having conscientiousness of time)
    Forgetfulness
    interrupting people
    Poor Self-image
    Lack of Motivation
Difficulty Starting a Task (Rings a bell ?)
    Chronic Lateness (Always late)
    Prioritizing Issues (Setting wrong priorities)
struggling to complete tasks, even ones that seem simple
blurring/zoning out without realizing it, even in the middle of a conversation

There are some other symptoms but these were the most common ones .

IV] How can YOU know if you really have it :

Well the short answer to that is go see a psychiatrist and i he'll diagnose you , BUT , i can hook you up with a free Online Test that is pretty accurate , you can take it for free and without registration : http://bit.ly/BHW-ADHD-TEST .
I took that test and i scored 45 at it , Please SHARE your results

    V] Treatments :

Ok , so i have only been researching for 24 Hours .. i didn't pick up that much information on this , but the general public's opinion is divided : Those who root for Medicine and those who root for natural treatments . The thing that both have in common is that they DO NOT CURE ADHD .. yep it's unfortunately incurable .

1 : Meds , as i stated in the intro i know abt all this from googling Adderall , well Adderall is the most known medicine for ADD/ADHD .. along with Ritalin and a bunch of others .. and they work like a charm , it make you do shit , be on time , focus , do everything the right way ! , they make wonders , at first i was VERY VERY Exited about them , till i heard about their side effects , they're very addictive , as they contain 80% of methylphenidate/methamphetamine which is basically METH ! yes it contains Meth xD hahaha .. it's as addictive as cocaine , and some even said that once you're on it you can't get off safely .

2 : that leads us to natural treatments and that includes psychological therapy , diet , time management , family support and all that .. i'm going to share with you here a couple of videos that i found out to be very helpful :

How to deal with ADD/ADHD :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQF_WoionPE

Hypnosis Session for ADHD (this actually helped me alot !) [Skip the Intro Music is annoying]

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1HZ8Spdms8

There are literally hundreds of very helpful videos on YT about this , just do your research !

VI] Resources and stuff i gathered :

I gathered some stuff along my research , so here i'm going to share the best of them .
Please note : if you do have ADHD you will probably hit that back button or exit these articles/videos because they're too long .. trust me i know how that feels , but they're really really worth it .

ofc the wiki page of ADHD : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder

    http://www.helpguide.org/mental/adhd_add_adult_strategies.htm

    http://www.healthyplace.com/adhd/ch...aging-attention-deficit-disorder-add-at-home/

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6HsTG-Gl9Y

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvcNAXxe5k0

    VII] Final Words .

As i explained , ADHD is not just laziness , researches have shown that the brain doesn't produce enough of certain chemicals .. so it's more than just luck of power of will .
I really hope this thread helps some of you who're , like me , struggling with ADHD , it's not always a bad thing to have , watch the last 2 videos , that TEDx Talk is really really worth watching even if you don't have ADD/ADHD .. it gets better really , because of my ADHD , i was never able to focus on one thing i was all over the place doing everything .. today at the age of 21 , I Play guitar , I'm a programmer , An IMer for 4 years now , A Hypnotist , A Magician for 7 years now , I play soccer , i play basketball , i played volleyball for 3 years , i learned a bit of German , i fluently Speak and write Arabic , French and English , i'm great with computers (been around em for 19 years now) , i workout and lift weights , i know ALOT about Nutrition (used to be very Fat , still a lil bit) , played a bit of piano , i did a liiiiittle bit of graphic design , a bit of SEO , i played Chess for 3 years and got the 6th place in our national championship for the Under 18 category and the list goes on and on and on .. ow one more thing , People with ADD have a bigger imagination and a higher IQ .. i have an IQ of 120 . So look at the bright side of it , and you'll have a great success :D

Please spread the word about ADHD and tell your friends that you doubt that they might have it .
Thanks for reading till the end i appreciate it . [I Hope this thread gets pinned] (what do you think ? should it get pinned ?)

Man that is bad, anyway, very nice reading.

I have been in this problem for years, i am very bad in memorizing, but very good in long term memory. so the case is that i can't remember what i study easy, but once i get it, it stays like forever. lol

Suffering from ADD doesn't mean you also got the hyperactive part of it. In fact there are several mixes possible. Strong hyperactivity, mix type (commonly called ADHD) and strong inattention (daydreamer). I think that test is more focused on type 1 and 2, cause I assume I am type 3 though I only got 17 points (which seems low compared to the shit I carry with me).
All hassle and procrastination aside, I really enjoy the hyper-focus, creativity and brainpower part of it. When I found a challenge, I could work on it several days without sleep. Cool ideas visit me all the time. And I had the highest IQ in my age-group at school. The unfortunate part is, even with hyper-focus I can never get enough of these creativy strikes into real, tangible results. Anyway, I choose a wife that is the opposite of me. Besides of momets in life, where you feel like an alien to each other (for being quite different in some ways), we can complement each other quite well. But I also know from people with a stronger hyperactivity part, that relationships can be an almost impossible task.
I have a good friend that sufferes from strong hyperactivity. When he grew up, he wasn't even able to built plastic kits (planes etc), cause he would break everything. He has the fastest brain of all people I know. But as I said, it is really difficult for him to keep to a woman, cause it all bores him so fast (he said to me, that he thinks the whole relationship through till the end, sees that there's nothing interesting left after all has been said to each other, and break up right at the start before all that happens). He takes ritalin frequently. That gets him down, and takes away a lot of his creativity (far less jokes).
But, and here comes hope, he gets lots of work done. In fact he and another heavy hyperactive guy have an insurance website and make around 50k $ a month.
btw. Dyslexia and AD(H)D often go hand in hand. So if you have dyslexia among your family members, it's likely there's some ad(h)d in your family as well.

Just be carefull with e-diagnosis as you are very likely to come up with the wrong answer. As the stress of looking for an answer can often make the symptoms fit the condition.

Invariably therapies for many conditions like add and adhd to chronic fatigue et al at the other end of the spectrum include clean and healthy drink more water and get some exercise. Similar to what you would do for lethargy. It's safe it's healthy and doesn't involve flavours of munchhausen.

If your really worried see a doctor rather than a mate on t-web

I scored 38, but I don`t think there is anything physically/mentally wrong with me, I`m just a lazy by default meaning I lack the will power to do anything about it (haven`t yet found anything powerful enough to motivate me). And I think most people can relate but will rather accept that there is something wrong with them, instead of taking the responsibility to change it themselves. Don`t get me wrong, I am not saying you are one of those people and if you think there is something wrong by all means talk to your doctor, but I just don`t buy that whole ADD thing, at least not when you are testing yourself, via online questionnaire...

I used to be able to hyperfocus when I was younger, but after enough.. trauma, i guess.. I'm almost always aware of my surroundings and time.
    /useless

I hear Adderall can REALLY make people focus on a task for long periods of time.

I disagree with this whole thread. Here's why:

You find a freckle on your forearm one day, nothing to worry about right? A quick Google search would probably say otherwise though. You would quickly start diagnosing yourself with cancer, getting paranoid and making a mountain out of a freckle.

This thread is exactly the same. Everyone gets distracted, and now getting non qualified people to diagnose themselves with some new paranoia-causing disease, they are shifting the blame from their own laziness, to some "mental disorder" they can't control.

I'm not saying ADHD doesn't exist, but taking some online "test" to find out if you are touched in the head or not, makes as much sense as expecting to get into college based on a Facebook IQ test you took when you were 14.

Other people have mentioned the same view as I have but I'm going to throw it out anyway - you cannot use a basic online test with no qualified medical input to diagnose yourself with a condition.

Self diagnosis is really a dangerous thing.
Please go see a doctor if you suspect any serious mental issues.
Also out of personal experience I can say that you should never ever use ADHD as an excuse.

Fk me, I scored 31, it seems I might have moderate/combined ADHD. I noticed in the last year that I became very intolerant to repetitive and long tasks. By example, I can't assist at courses for more than 20 minutes without moving around. I can't even read few pages from a book without getting bored. There are only a few things that keep my attention focused and I usually finish them really quickly. Also, I start sleeping less day by day (going to sleep at 1 am, waking up at 4am and can't get sleep again). Well, I guess I should seek medical attention ASAP. If they put me on meds, we should make a legal crack/meth group here, on BHW :D

Great, self diagnosis on the internet.........could lead to 98% of people thinking they have Aids.

Got a problem, see a doctor.

Remember big pharma has to make up and market "New Diseases" as the patents run out their cures for "Traditional ailments".

Im not saying adhd etc doesnt exist but maybe lay off the coffee and the smartphone for a few days before you start pumping yourself with chemicals.
