Hey guys,

So I have been investigating my 2 websites dropping massively since 2 months ago in SERP (Since google updates).
I have read many contents, mostly forum posts and user experience reports, it just does not make sense to me.

One of my websites came online since 2016 and the other since 2018.

Content has always been human written, even pictures were done by me. Content is totally friendly as well as being optimized properly.
Website performance score on CWV is 100 on all aspects.
Old posts are way down the SERP now and new posts do not even appear on ranking although indexed.

Now, I see many cheap competitors with absolutely low DA score and backlink amount, with not even having close to amount of helpful content I have ranking above me.

Funniest of all, Since I know my niche for 13 years, I have noticed 3 new websites popping above me for the related keyword, clear as day made by one person.

If you want to tell me "go and optimize your content, follow google guidelines" what the hell does it even mean? because I have been doing it all since the start.

Is it even worth it to work towards google SEO?

did you analyze what would be the reason? like content, topical coverage, fresh content with updated facts etc

Did you ever have ads on any of the websites?

Ezoic or Mediavine?
Nothing, just a simple knowledgebase website with all genuine content.

How can I do that when for the past 5 years I have made quality content?
What is analyzing anymore seriously?

To me it feels like you must be a big publisher to be ranked, content does not matter anymore.

How did you monetize these two websites?
Thanks.
One of the sites had a backlink from the knowledge base site. I did not put any sort of ads, I did not us AI for images or contents, I never over optimized anything.

Simple genuine human-made material with simple usual SEO practices.

About your low-quality competitors that keep appearing higher than you in the SERP: take note that recent Google leaks revealed that Google uses much more than just content evaluation in ranking

Your competitors may have used some traffic generation practices, or some other blackhat techniques

You can try reporting them to Google

Well, in that case you can adopt some of their practices yourself. It may be sad but if your competitors have such an advantage, you shouldn't rip yourself of it

All this situation still raises big questions to Google in the first place, of course

Thats what I am trying to make sure of.

Because people keep telling me "follow latest google guidelines" I check those guidelines, all what I have been following, yet I get de-ranked.

Because people keep telling me "follow latest google guidelines"
Google just wants to sit on 2 chairs simultaneously

1st, it wants all content to be genuine, all authors and creators to do whitehat SEO only, which ensures ideal competition without any gray zones. That's why most websites keep trumpeting about following guidelines, and Google ranks them higher in return (they may well use whitelists like with politics or COVID for this topic as well)

2nd, it wants to please its users by providing relevant or trendy content , and uses click data, link info and other non-spoken-of metrics as well - but still doesn't want any creators to use any software that puts website higher in SERP other than their own Google Ads

I suppose it would be impossible for them to shift completely to one of the chairs and leave the other, while the people who suffer from it most are creators and authors, who should in theory be the backbone of Google

what happens now is that people build a site, it ranks initially and then eventually drops. If your site is good, it ranks longer but then drops. This is especially true for affiliate and ad revenue driven sites. If you have a real business, such as a SaaS or if you are doing SEO for a local business then that is still viable for now. However, the clock is ticking and it's only a matter of time before that goes out the window as well.

Google's algorithm is driven by machine learning, and while they tell you "We want you to do xxxx", they are just unable to design an algorithm that actually rewards sites doing "xxxx". They may want to do that, but they are not capable to achieving it It's just the fucking wild west at the moment with all the AI. Google is losing the AI war, and they are clearly unable to detect good vs. bad content. Wait until the dust settles. This could be never, or maybe sometime in the near or distant future.

Its not your fault, its Google's, it must be a mess in that company now, full of shit and shitty enginners.

All you can do it build more sites, or quit.

Could you give us more information on the site?

For example is it a blog, e commerance, local business etc.
And how much traffic drops did it receive? -20%,-30%,-80% etc.

It will help us give an indication of your situation better, since the recent update hit certain websites differently.

A blog, mostly, I just post knowledge base articles related to the niche.

Since the update in march, I would say over 50%

Is that 50%- of total traffic or 50%- of Google search traffic (from Google search console)?

If you type a keyword you used to rank for plus your domain name in Google search are you showing in the SERPs?
