I have a client that wants to rank for 2 keywords. He owns a local business so page 1 is filled with Google Places for both keywords that he wants to rank for.

What you suggest me to do? Outrank those Google Places or get him inside the Google Places? It seems double listings are not possible anymore, at least not when you try to rank the rootdomain, innerpages are still possible to rank next to Places.

If I suggest Google Places then there is not much work left for me to do as it seems to be fairly automatic when you get a listing and some reviews.

    HELP :)

go for both and try and get above places, should be easy if you are targetting only 2 kw

    also charge a healthy price

nik-o that is false, I have a site with TWO pages above the G place listing for the same KW. Just make sure the site has good KW rich content and do good back linking.

Not intended to be false, after my other client got into Google Places he was nowhere to be found for this keyword in the organic listings, only at page 8 we found him ranking with an innerpage for that keyword. The Google Places ATE his normal rankings for the root domain for that keyword.

Before the Google Places he ranked at page 1 already for that keyword, just under the Places listings.

Yea, they do tend to combine your Places and organic listing together... however I find that if you are really strong it seems they give you both listings back on the first page... although it isn't common, and it takes a little time.

You can however get them a Places listing and work on a different domain to get them a first page organic listing as well.

Different domain, why not just an innerpage? The site of the client is fairly new so we can still go any direction we like.

The other client of mine ranks for different (non google places) keywords still at page 1 with innerpages.

This isn't the case at all. Places takes a lot of ongoing work, too.

As with any ranking strategy, competition can get more or better amounts of whatever it takes to rank for your KW. Places is no different.

There is just as much potential to lose your ranking there, so just as much reason to charge monthly for maintaining the position.

Oh I see what you are saying. I did not bother with the places, I went straight organic and then got 2 pages above the places listing.

To rank higher in Google Places, do we need to build links to the website or to the Google Places page?
