Have you taken GST or GST LUT {being Indian freelancer}

It is must if want to exempt taxes.
  • Zero-rated supply to SEZ without payment of IGST
  • Export of goods to a country outside India without the payment of IGST.
  • It is providing services to a client in a country outside India without paying IGST.
So then you don't have to file GSTR, or you have to mention your GST on invoices
I mean how you use that LUT

One of my Indian buddy when through this process.

You have to register for GST as an export-based business. Then apply for a LUT in the GST portal. This gives you exemption from paying GST for the money you receive from foreign nations. But, you still have to pay GST if you are selling your services to your Indian clients.

And yes, you have to file GST returns every month. But, it is generally a zero filing.

A good CA should help you set up everything and do the monthly zero GST filing on your behalf.

This is what I know. Do check it with others from India to confirm the details.

You'll have to file the GST returns. You just don't have to pay GST on your revenue if you declare it as income from export of services. For that you can take LUT, it's an easy process. Hire a CA.
Keep in mind for export of services you'll need a proof. FIRC/FIRA. If you're receiving payments via Payoneer or PayPal they issue the FIRC/FIRA certificate directly on their platform. If you're receiving it in your bank directly then you need to request your bank to issue a FIRC.

Seriously speaking, this is not the place to ask for taxation advices. I am pretty sure you will have a C.A. who is filing your GST, ask him other things too. It's always better to consult in these matters.

I reside in small town so C.A. here don't know much , yesterday I spoke to a CA he recommended me to another and both were not able to help. So, I thought I will explain after getting some over view from here

Try talking to online CAs on Cleartax. They may be able to help you, but it is best to hire a local CA.
