Have You Ever Removed a Backlink Because It Was Too Irrelevant?

I do not normally disavow a link simply because it’s irrelevant. First, I would consider the pattern of the links.single irrelevant links don’t cause many problems, but when there are lots of them, it can make the link profile seem unnatural.

The links that had no relation whatsoever to the topic have been removed from the document as well. I consider topical relevance and appropriateness of the link more important than the mere pursuit of high domain rating.

Absolutely. The factors that I consider while looking at backlinks include relevancy, quality, and context. Not one link which is irrelevant is going to be necessarily bad, but if there is a pattern of such links then one should look into it.

We usually talk about getting more backlinks, but I rarely see people discuss removing links that don’t really make sense for the site.

Have you ever looked at your backlink profile and decided that a link was doing more harm than good simply because it was completely unrelated?

Curious whether people here actually evaluate links based on relevance, or mainly look at authority and traffic.
Most people forgo removing irrelevant links, given that Google largely disregards them. Unless the links are outright spam, the effort is rarely justified.

yeah, i check relevance during backlink audits, but i wouldn't remove every unrelated link. i'd look at the overall pattern and whether the links actually look spammy or manipulative. IMO, relevance matters, but authority and placement still count too.

yeah i have already taken away some links that were way off topic. I care less about the numbers and more about to making sure that the page is relevant to the visitor well .

I’d look at relevance too If a link is totally unrelated I don’t think a high DA or good traffic makes it a great link

yes ofcourse if in this era of AI if your backlink has no qualit and relevance so it is useless and even hurt your website so it is very important to get quality of backlinks and remove old spammy backlinks

I think relevance matters more than authority alone. If a backlink has no connection to the site or content, I’d rather remove it and keep the profile more focused.

yeah i have junked a couple when the link just felt completely out of the place. Does not matter how strong the domain looks if the placement makes zero sense.
