No, I have never been there, but I hear it is a great country to be kidnapped in.

lol, wow that's assuring. I would hope your trip doesn't turn out anything like Turistas (awful movie but that's the basic plot).

What part of Brazil are you going to be staying in? Or will you be traveling all over? I'd really like to go to Rio myself.

bananahands: I definitely don't want him to be kidnapped or anything of the sort. I hope he really enjoys his experience.

Going to Rio at first. Im probably going to find a place for a bit to learn the language. I want to learn it for internet marketing.

    And travel all over afterwards.

Wow, I have to say I'm envious, but I'm sure you've earned it so nice going. Portuguese will be tough to learn but it will definitely help being immersed in the culture...I'm sure you'll get it.

Why do you want to know it for IM? A lot of contacts from Brazil?

@justthinking, I know man, just jokin with you. Definitely need to watch your back/wallet at all times.

I think Portuguese will be pretty easy as my first language is French. I already started learning it and it's a piece of cake. So similar to French. I want to know it for SEO and PPC & CPA mostly.

I only know one dude in Brazil. I'm probably going to meet up with him at some point but that's all.

It is. If you already know a language with a latin root - like french -, most of the others come easy - hey you can try spanish next, and travel up and down America !-.

Living in Argentina, I've been to Brazil a few times. Mostly to the south part, though, as it's nearer. Rio is a beautiful city, with very easy going people - compared to Sao Paulo ( and Paris :p ), anyway -. You'd be arriving during "Carnaval", so be prepaired. Enjoy all you can, but do be careful. There are definitely some places you might consider twice before going alone, particularly if you don't know your way around and have a tourist look. Also, be prepaired because it's REALLY HOT right now, as we're in mid summer - worse in January, though -.

If you ever decide to come south to Argentina while you're there, do PM me !

All i know is what my friend told me there is hookers all over the place and if you do not make the price first or asked this if they really are hookers the police can arrest you and you be shit in trouble. Also do not get kidnapped. Actually look very poor that's the best way to avoid problem.

Banaman my best advice to you is that you frid someone who is trustworthy to take along the journey...when you arrive at the airport people are going to be dying to help you..be warned...those brazilians can detect tourist from miles away...they will tell you something like this...Dejeme llevar su maletin a mi carro..and after that they in business...just becareful man..since you going for the first time try going to places were not many residents reside..try going to the peaceful areas of the country..and dont get in trouble for women...

lived there for 4 months a few years ago. mainly stayed in rio, but sao paulo is more my speed. it really depends on the people you hang with. in my experience, the police in rio were so corrupt that i ended my trip 8 months early. tons of hookers and the problem with that is i would be in a club with a few friends and then a ton of really, really hot women would come in, you start a conversation and next thing you know they would be "working". more than enough action down there without the working girls though.

in rio i found it best to stay in the central areas and you could avoid trouble with the police, but you still have to watch the stick up kids. especially around this time of year.

have a great time, get to know a few cool people and come back here with stories to tell.

i could say alot more but tired of typing.

    have fun.

Been to Brazil several times as my dad lived there for about 20 years....ex canadian....He had a place a hundred yards from copacabana beach and another in the country....people are warm and friendly for the most part but if you go advertising money in the wrong places your asking for trouble....when i was there i kept money in my shoes and never wore jewellery of any kind...Monty has alot of good points...police there are corrupt...ive paid them off several times...really......last time there i was robbed at knife point (30" knife) by three guys directly on the beach at 9am!...whats amazing though is that a local there saw all of this go down and ran after the guys and got my money back! Enjoy but always be aware of your surroundings...if you'd like more info just ask..cheers

Yea when I went I spotted people who were up to no good and corrupt police. But since i am 6'4/ 6'5 230 pounds, not a lot of people have enough heart to step within 3 feet of me..LOL

So yea my physically appearance detours a lot of people and they just move on to the next person
