What do you think about joining the army for a year or 2?
No offtopics please.
Sure, why not? Chances are you'll learn a ton of stuff for life and meet some great people. Plus, depending on what country we're talking about, the salary can be quite good! Most European countries pay around 2000 Euros after your training period.
Go for it. You'll get some good training that you'll carry on for the rest of your life. Besides the tangible benefits, a lot of fundamentals can be applied in your everyday life and will help you propel in the future, not to mention you'd be better prepared to tackle life's obstacles ahead of you.
Regardless of whether you're likely to go to war or not and the politics, it'll be of positive benefit to you.
Its a Russian idiom I believe: "Soldier sleeps - the service continues".
I slept for 2.5 years, and had some unforgeable moments for the remaining 0.5.
Until the formula above changes I wouldnt advocate military service to anyone.
Be someones mug whilst they sit back and get rich off you, no sorry that is not for me.
No way. I wont waste my best time of life. Its 2014 you know.
If you enjoy making the rich richer then go ahead, or you could get like a army reservation type thing and you most likely wont go to war and will just train and could learn some good skill.
I've served the army for 3 years. It's a life-changing experience depending on what you do there. I met my best friends in the army, and I was discharged from the army 8 years ago.
It's mandatory where I live, but I still highly recommend serving in terms of acquiring life experience.
The question is why? WTF would you want to go in the military? That's like working for no pay for a year or two and doing everything you're told regardless of what you want. I mean do you really want to give your life to somebody else instead of living it the way YOU want? You have a world of possibilities and opportunities in front of you. Choose what you want to do. If military is you're #1 pick, go ahead. Do what you want not what others want you to do.
If you are in the US, it is a very good thing to do. Aside from the pride of standing up to defend your country during your lifetime, the educational opportunities are incredible, the friendships lifetime.
It also makes you grow up. You will learn not to be punctual, what teamwork can accomplish, and too treat others with respect. You will learn not to quit and that every obstacle has a way around it, you just have to smart enough and tough enough to pull it off.
If you manage to go into a field you are interested in, you end up with a world class education in that field.
Personally, I wouldn't go Army or Marines (they tend to get shot at a lot), I was Air Force (pilots get shot a lot, planes and their support cerws are kept well away from combat areas for the most part), and the Navy was never for me, though it might be for you.
Do not forget the Coast Guard, very good training for law enforcement if you think along those lines, you almost never get shot at, their mission is critical, and you stay home.
I did 6 years in the navy, and its the best time of my life! Travel free, see the world and get paid to do so I highly recommend anyone who is unsure of their future to consider this !
I served, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
I'm still in pain every day, and no one will ever thank you for it.
I served 10 years in the US Air Force and have to say that it was the best decision I made when I was young. I joined right out of high school and got to travel many countries for free. I won't say which career field I was in but it was a very good experience til the end - except for the first couple of months in boot camp of course.
If you do join, just remember that boot camp is a mind game. Play their games, don't resist and you will always come out on top.
The military was a life changing experience. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't hesitate to do it.
Thanks guys for your answers. I'll definitely join it!
going to the army is just like supporting war,and you will be your country bitch\slave depends
look at all the wars around right now and in the past, its always lose - lose
by the way, your hype wont stay long enough (2 years)
if its not a must in your country than dont go for it.
It a must for all male over 18 of age to serve our nation. I happened to be in the tank unit. It was certainly agood experience as not much people have the chance to fire off tank, driving it. Not forgetting the section movement when trained as infantry as recruit, airborne, field camp, river crossing, section live firing....and many many more...kinda enjoy the carefree life when in the camp.
hmm not sure what to say much - as military life is not easy
hmm what do you mean by that?
My suggestion, go into the air force, and tell the recruiter that you are want to go into cyber security. Ask for a guarantee before you enlist. If you pass the tests, you will get the guarantee.
Get that education in cyber security and you are set for life.
Awesome, to go to the air force I heard your vision should be perfect. I'd rate my eyes for 7/10. Laser eye surgery is not a problem though.
Ran out of thanks, I still need to thank your previous post about labs.
