I'm thinking, previously people would just blog about your site's content, on their own site, blog, etc.
But today it seems like more people will just Facebook "like" it or tweet about it..
It seems like it's much harder to get natural backlinks than it used to be.

    Your thoughts?

Not really cause the 'new' thing is to get a lot of social media attention but depending on your niche it is not all that it is cracked up to be. A like or retweet will not increase your rankings, so while they may be good from a marketing perspective they won't help SEO. With people spending more time on these social networks it is easier to share an article and comment on it than to take a few hours to write a proper blog post. So yes this may make backlink building harder in the scope of things but tumblr is quickly getting more popular so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I agree with the OP in a big percentage here.

Social Media backlinks are able to push a website to the top easily without worries.
