Okay, so I've been reading this forum intensively, I'm looking to start my first "big" site. I've read that it's best to have multiple pages on your site, because it boosts your PR. So for each article pretty much make a new page.

My question is, can I rank for specific keywords on each one of those pages? If there is competition for that keyword I need to get backlinks to that specific page yes?

Also with each individual page do I want to link back to my homepage? I've also read that spreading backlinks throughout your whole site is ideal, but is this a necessity? Seems like a huge amount of work!

Thanks in advance to all the kind hearts that help me out :)

Yes - PAGES rank in Google, NOT websites. Optimally, each page would rank well for one or more terms. When starting, I'd recommend just focusing on one phrase per page. The longer the keyword phrase (these are known as "long-tail" phrases) the less competition you should have.

Talk with others here that are more backlink experts (I recommend BassTrackerBoats' linkpush service, which can be found here:

but I think you should build links to all pages of your site, not just your home page.

Yes, this is called "inter-linking". You don't need to go crazy with it but do it if it won't take up too much time (I don't think it will break your site if you don't inter-link the pages, just my opinion).

    Good luck!

Just like teeniegeenie is saying, backlinking to your innerpages is actually very important and the link juice can travel to the main page from the inner pages for you and that is what you really want to do.

And if you're using Wordpress, you can find plugins that automatically create links for specific words, and anchor your keywords there. Like every time "lottery" or "win the lottery" shows up in a post, the plugin makes a link to your lottery related money page.
