My company has some YouTube video uploading software that we would like to host on additional PCs outside of our network.

Want to make an extra $5 per day doing nothing? Let us use your internet connection and computer remotely to run our YouTube posting software on. You can enable our software at any time, and begin to make money immediately. When you are ready to stop, just close our program.

All you have to do is follow our simple setup instructions, and we will take care of the rest! You will have the freedom to disable/enable the program at will, so you can make some extra money while you are at school/work.

Please note that while the software is active, we need 100% control of the computer, so you should not use it until you have deactivated our software.

We will pay you via PayPal promptly every time you have achieved 20$ worth of hours. This service is only available for Windows XP operating systems. Also, it only works for certain cable modems, so you will need to inform us of your modem model before we proceed.

exactly that's what makes this method borderline illegal. It is usually done without the computer owners knowledge or permission.

Hey, I am the poster of this thread. Do any of you have some recommendations on how to 'legitimize' this service, or make it more realistic? I understand everyone's concerns, and they make sense. I need to get remote hosting locations for cheap. Obviously I just need a way for people to be able to determine what the software is doing, etc. Can anyone think of any techniques that would make this more legitimate?

    Thanks.

    Hmm. Allow someone to... WHAT?

This sounds like a total scam. If this guy commits a crime your liable for whatever he does because your facilitating the crime. NOTE: Violating TOS of a website is now a crime after the MySpace Precedent.

Also, note that this guy can do anything such as installing trojans, click fraud.

    Full control my ass.

There's no way to grant 'limited control' that I know of. Can anyone think of a way to build a legitimate service like this? Bandwidth and processing is worth money, so why not find a way to put it to use?

    The plot thickens...

    Here's one of his posts:
"I'm new to forums and neticate. We're a mix of technology and marketing guys that may have figured out the replacement for SPAM that is 100% legal."

It's 100% legal except for the part about the botnet!

    Danger Will Robinson! Danger!

i wouldnt necessarily call this a botnet, more of letting someone remote desktop access your PC and getting paid for it. although I would only do this with someone i was friends with and trust.

truth be told, there really isnt any 'proof' that this is a scam. it could be 100% legitimate for all we know. like i said, its no different then renting a VNC or allowing someone to remote desktop your PC. however, i would never let someone i didnt know well do this to my PC, and .20 an hour isnt really worth it at all.

Lol, people throw around the word scam like crazy nowadays. look a little closer the_demon, all the searches come up with something completely different (has nothing to do with him asking ppl to let him use their PCs remotely). do your research properly before outting someone like this next time

That's precisely the thing that makes it illegal. the equivalent of letting someone use your PC remotely with your permission is not illegal in any way, unless they commit crimes whilst using your PC.
