Has anyone registered a brand new domain (no 301, not aged) within the last 2 weeks and actually had it rank within top 5 pages?

It is just much more difficult than about 1 month ago.....

Aged and authority domains seem to have a preference, new ones and web 2.0 , not easy now

That is possible, considering many advanced SEO strategy nowadays. Just make sure the competition is not too steep. I only know 1 month old website that reach top 10 page, which is mine :D

Myself, no. However, a friend of mine just bought a domain like 2 weeks ago. He started posting high quality content and did some SEO outsourcing after that. It turned out well, a spot on first page on google serps.

Domain age is also a boost though.

I haven't purchased one recently but I know that is is easy to rank in the top 5 pages for less popular keywords, a little bit of time and effort and you'll get it in no time at all!

I registered "ihavelithuaniantoesandchristianhaircut.com" and it ranked on day one for "lithuanian toes haircut" exact on all search-engines.

It all depends on how competitive your target keyword is. For something with no competition, you could hit first page in a day or two with a couple back links.

Yes, we work on new domains for our clients all the time. Ranking them top 3 in a few weeks isn't uncommon. Low competition or Extreme competition, doesn't matter much if you know what you're doing.
