I just realized that American Idol is one of the most-watched TV Shows of all time...and I began to think about ways I could piggyback off that show's exposure in order to generate some cash.

Then I drew a blank. Then I thought about how there are a lot of great (and devious) minds here. So I gotta ask, has anyone here found a way to make off of American Idol?

you could do polls. Associated Content is always asking for reviews of whomever's performance on AI so u could go that route. Those articles usually pay just for # of pageviews, not upfront, though

American Idol "Betting" forum. People bet on sports all the time...Why not American Idol? Charge commission or however you want to do it. I did it last year for the finals of Archuleta and Cook. I made a bag full of green. ;)

My partner and I run one of the longer running sites on AI. It's horrible paying adsense wise - CPM rates are good, but our traffic is so high we burn through the paying ads very fast.

Considering server and writing costs we still make money, but it's a pain in the ass. Next year we have to go to a load balancing setup with multiple servers. It's a very short but HUGE burst of traffic for a few hours after the show is over. Then steady all week long. Hard on any hardware to stay up when you get 100k visitors in a few minutes. We've brought ad networks down :)
