Has anyone ever used Blogger to make money?

I found a nice little keyword, about 12,000 searches per month with approximately $16 CPC.

I already made a blogger account, wrote a nice, unique and interesting article on the subject. Before I submit it to search engines and what not, I was thinking of buying a domain name for it.

Do you think I would have the same money making potential using blogger with a unique domain name as I would with my own website with the domain name? Content will still be great, just under blogger.

Maybe down the line, when the traffic becomes consistent, I was thinking to switching to a paid hosting company.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

Thanks a lot for your time.:)

Blogger can shut down you account at any time for whatever reason they want. You can make as much there as with your own site, but it is riskier than building your own site.

I've made good money in the past with blogger and have a site on there that still pulls in $30-$50/month even though it was abandoned long ago. If I had it to do over again, I would not have used blogger at all just because it is not as flexible as wordpress, but you've got to start somewhere and blogger is a good learning platform.

It is possible to earn with web 2.0s but the better approach would be to get your own hosting + domains. If you are in for the long haul, these small initial investment is unavoidable.

yea, and it worked very well (SC+imageboard+blogger combo)
you just need to remember - what somebody already said above - not putting too much work into any of them, because you absolutely have no control over them or just abide their TOS and you'll be fine
or just leverage them until Google doesn't ban them, they're not that quick when it comes to ban (my blogger blogs lasted for a few months before Google pulled them down and i'm pretty sure they got reported a couple of times per day by angry readers), and also remember it's still free to create them, but if you want to make several, you should create them using different gmail accounts and don't forget to change your ip, delete cookies/flash cookies between switching those accounts
btw all of my blogger blogs are banned now which is not too big surprise :)
