    Hey everyone.

My employer provides a educational allowance every year. Anyway, wanting to learn more about seo, I came across Search Engine College- http://www.searchenginecollege.com/ kind of a cheesy name, but my local jc uses them to offer accreddiated courses. The one I want to take is 250 hours and you get a official certification-- the one i want to take is the Search Engine Marketing course..
    http://www.gatlineducation.com/search_engine_marketing_coursemain.html

The Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Online Training Program covers all aspects of search engine marketing, including search engine optimization, pay-per-click marketing, and Web site copywriting. These are the essential components for understanding this unique and growing career field.
This online certificate program is offered in partnership with major colleges, universities, and other accredited education providers.

Any thoughts or comments, its not cheap but 90% is covered by my work, the rest is a tax credit. I just don't want to waste my time on material that was relevant in the late 90's ...

Personally I would say if you have the time and you are getting an employer paid tuition for this then why not? Yes it could look good on your resume and might just give you additional insight.

I would also argue what others have said about our forum. Use the two in conjunction and have the best of both worlds.

If I was young again that is what I would do.....

Sounds like it would be worth your time to take some classes if most of the bill will be carried by your employer. You can never learn too much about SEO IMO...

Look at the course outline. It is all onsite SEO. Page optimization and writing copy.
    Code:
    www.gatlineducation.com/search_engine_optimization_outline.html
I started to say go for it, as any certification will make you more of an asset but after looking at the outline... I'd say look for something else. You will be bored to tears.

I don't think that you should go take a class on SEO with the aim of getting better at SEO. Heck, I don't think that college text books could keep up with how rapidly things change.

But... It would be a great way to get a piece of paper to either get you a job or build credibility with a client.

If you want the certificate - go for it.

But I would not put up my hopes to learn anything serious. I went on a SEO course myself, that was hosted by a major web-designer company. I was literary chocked, because they didn't know anything else, besides from h1 tag and then listing a lot of facts, that I later found out was wrong.

The good thing is however, if you don't learn anything, then will it increase your motivation, because you suddenly become aware of the shitty SEO work a lot of big companies do.
