    Hello Everyone,

I have been doing social media for a long time now and I feel like the past 4months have been the hardest since i?ve started.

There seem to be so many updates going on and as soon as you find something which works, its taken away from you very quickly. As well as that it seems like the top social media sites are taking a lot of legal action against us.

SEO has also become extremely hard for me to.

AM I ALONE ON THIS? Or is everyone having a really hard time right now?

I look forward to hearing your responses and could honestly do with a good moral boost!
    Kind regards
    Jason

I'm pretty much there also. Google - at least as far as UK goes - is now SO illogical it's just killing me. I can't take much more.....

I saw my earnings from my niche sites drop slowly from September and then suddenly very hard from December. I lost about 95% of my monthly income compared to a year ago.
(talking about just over 80 niche sites which had 10-30 articles each)

These sites are monetized in different ways adsense/cpa/affiliate/clickbank etc.

In 2012 i was depending only on traffic for these sites from rankings in search engines but i actually blame myself as i did not do anything to my niche sites in 2012 at all, no new content, no promotion, no on or offsite seo.

I am trying to catch up to see what changed and testing several of my sites now with different methods of backlinking on how to improve their rankings again it can take another 3-4 months to see some results which stick.

One of the things i am doing right now is to schedule new articles to be published atleast 2 times a week to some of these sites so there should be some new content each week for the next few months.

I read a lot about anchor diversity but i find that it is hard to change that coz some of these sites have over 100k backlinks with 'anchor' = 'keyword' .

2 other sites where i interact with the audience both in social media and on the website do very good. I keep them updated daily and i actually focus there all my time on ( almost 24/7 ) , the amount of visitors keep increasing and on these sites the visitors do actually all the offsite seo for me by backlinking and sharing content on social media.

I honestly think i could rank those niche sites back to top 5 with some fresh content and most of all if i could emulate how a regular 'interested' user would backlink and share them on social media.

    good luck

Thanks for your input easydab, its certainly been a HUGE issue for some of us then. The problem is it now takes so long to see if what we are doing works. I feel like the old days of instant results do not really exist anymore.

    tough times

It shouldn't be as the 5% i make now compared to a year ago of niche sites is probably still enough to make a real newbie happy :) .

I am sure that someone new can make money in IM it is just as Jasona says 'I feel like the old days of instant results do not really exist anymore.'

Remember that 2 years ago it was actually pretty easy to rank for big volume keywords with emd + a ton of anchor backlinks and some decent onsite seo.
For example i have a credit card related website which had at it's peak 164 ranking keywords of which 10 high volume ranked top 10, now 4 ranking keywords ( top 50 ) and none in top 10.

Also remember that while i missed out on what is new in the last year that there are probably enough people who still find it easy to rank keywords and some of them will be newbies ;)

Well, I for one am feeling a little dispirited. When you throw yourself into someone with incredible passion, hard work, resourcefulness and, I like to think, intelligence, and still are only just making it, one has to ask is it worth it?

Google are making changes - at least on .co.uk - which appear to have no logic. There may be so underlying algorithmic subtlety no one has picked up on yet but I would say they are literally just fucking with us. They will do anything to create an uneven playing field and push people away from SEO and into PPC. They hate SEO companies with a passion, and they hate people not using PPC and making money off organic SERPS.

I would say the web is still a great place to make money but it is increasingly going to come less from organic SERPS. You can promote your goods and services on the web, but it will come more from things like advertising and PPC than relying on the SERPS. Or if you are making money from the SERPS you have to have many, many money sites, because the ride is going to be rocky. If i could make one recommendation to anyone starting out in this game, you should NEVER have only one money site. That is a foolish mistake...

Here's mine...what I used to earn in one or two hours years back (2006 - 2011) is now taking me almost 2 to 3 months! Good that I invested the monies on brick and mortar sources of income when the going was great.

All my sites are penalized by pandas, competition multiplied like crazy and are more aggressive,....nothing just seems to work for me - or my methods are just outmoded lolz.

If you are doing great now...invest that money somewhere "hard" whatever that is! And KEEP milking that method that's working for you now... because it could possibly not last for long and fierce competition is just around the corner.

yeah its really becoming a very difficult thing to do now and more and more people are struggling with the shift in outlook. It used to be quick easy money which you could rinse and repeat. Now its put loads of effort in and SEE in 3-4 months time if it works. For me that risk is far too high on my time. Before you know it 2013 is over and you still dont know whats working
