Harder to Rank a Page than a Domain?

Do you find it more difficult to rank for a niche search term if it is on a page rather than its own domain? For example, mysite.com/red-widgets/ or redwidgets.com

I am giving some thought to the building bigger sites rather than micro sites and am curious as to how much harder it is to rank those internal pages. Interested in hearing from people with actual experience ranking both types of pages.

Thanks

In my experience, yes, much harder. I've never had a mega site with authority though... if you had that, then maybe.

Also i think google has started sandboxing individual pages. My site is ranking for all keywords but one page has been flagged or something. It's disappeared from serps and googlebot won't visit it. When I do a search for the page it comes up last after thousands of spammy looking links. My bad lol, sure it will come back in time though

google rank pages, not domain, even your main page/index is a page so yes it is the same but your page has to be the same niche with your main page
