just quick: How much harder is it to rank .io compared to .com, .net etc?

according to my research it should not be an issue because google added .io to global TLDs. Anybody with real experiences ranking an .io?

It's getting less 'harder and harder', that's for sure. I'm seeing a lot more esoteric TLDs in the SERPs these days. I registered a few .io's myself. The main thing you should focus on is memorability. I managed to snag up these 2 beauties:

searchapi.io
ranktracker.io

The searchapi is live and does what you expect it to do, and I'm sure you can take a wild guess at the other. The beauty of .io domains is that they're quite memorable when used with online products. And I don't mean MoneyMaker2000v8-GetRichNow type of products. Genuine software stuff and blogs.

The price is steep though: $80+ dollars. Which means most domains on .io are of a certain quality.

Cool. I bought it know. The name is very nice. Hope it ranks well.

Is your site tech related ?

yes

I dont think tlds matter when it comes to ranking.

it does if it is a regional TLD for example but you want to rank global. .io was Indian Ocean before so it was hard before to rank well for non-INdian Oceanic keywords. But that changed now. Probably it is still a bit easier with .com / .net
